Frank Mir: "I don't have Fedor being in the top."
« on: August 01, 2008, 03:11:46 PM »
Frank Mir recently appeared as a guest host on ESPN's weekly MMA show entitled "MMA Live". He did a great job as an analyst for most of the show but some may take exception to the following statement regarding the pound-for-pound status of Fedor Emelianenko:
“I don’t have Fedor being in the top … I don’t have him above B.J. Penn, St. Pierre. I think that if all those guys weighed 155 pounds, that Fedor can’t beat B.J., he can’t beat Georges St. Pierre, and that’s what pound for pound means. It means that if they were exactly the same size. I think that some people are a little misunderstanding of that whole idea.”

Thoughts lads ........................ ...................

Mine (Mir would get peeled back by Fedor)

Oh Fedor would beat Mir like he owed him money.  But I don't necessarily think its beyond argument that Fedor is the pound for pound best fighter in the world.  I agree with Mir that it could be someone else.  I would not put BJ above Fedor, but GSP is right at the top with him.  Anderson Silva, GSP and Fedor I think are the best three fighters in the world right now.  But what the fuck do I know?

Uh...except that all these fighters have lost...repeatedly...exce pt Fedor...ergo, he's the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

Why can't UFC accept that they do not have ALL the best fighters in the world? Yes, they do have alot of them but when their fighters like Mir and Liddell go out and bash Fedor like they do it really makes me think less of their organization.

Mir is an idiot. Using that logic, the lightest person in the world is the best pound per pound fighter in the world because he has no one to fight  ::)

Epic jealousy from a has-been heavyweight who's annoyed by Fedor's perfect record

This coming from a guy who dosent even deserve the chance he's got.  Mir's a decent fighter and all (not counting the piss poor cardio, shot leg, weak stand up and suspect chin).  If he's the number one contender in the UFC that says alot about where they really stand as far as heavyweights are concerned.

Until Fedor loses he's P4P the best in my book.  If BJ beats GSP he may have an arguement.

i disagree with the "until he loses" argument. machida among others too are undefeated.

if fedor wont win at 155 then isnt the reverse true, that bj wouldnt win as a hw? let's argue the pound for pound, rather than talk about mir.

Fedor has fought 30 times, when Machida reaches 30 bouts and still hasn't been beaten then you can bring his name up (Fedor has a loss on his record, but he hasn't been beaten).  Plus, you're always bitching about people who don't finish fights, Machida is basically the king of the decision.

cut those 30 fights in half and we're getting closer to the truth as half of them should hardly count. and thats in 8 years, machida fought for 5.

machida does the best with what he's got, but fedor is ranked #1 and got heavy hands yet doesnt ko anybody. that's a damn shame.

when you are on top everyone wants to cut you down.

Fedor is the best, no doubt about it. Only thing against him is he is Russian. If he was a different type of Slav. He would be perfect.  ;)

Mir is an intelligent guy so I'm a bit startled at his comments. I presume he's trying to stir the pot - maybe on Dana's request. I'm assuming that a lot more UFC fighters will make disparaging remarks towards Fedor and affliction soon enough

What's wrong with Mir's comment?  He is just stating what most of us say all the time (that the P4P crown is a toss-up between Silva, GSP and Fedor -- He mentions BJ, Which IMO is not on the list, but that;s just my opinion) and just said it in a technical manner.  In real terms, the P4P goes to the best fighter, talent wise, regardless of how much they weigh.  Or, in other words, if all fighters weighed the same weight, be it 155 or 235, who has the most talent...  All he was saying is that he thinks BJ or GSP should have the crown...

Fedor has well over 100 fights and a win is a win.

And still waiting to see how you can explain how half of them don't count. A fight is a fight.

Not on Fedor's nuts, just stating fact.

And if you think I am, for the record I have said more than once that Anawatazi is the best fighter P4P in the world. Rickson said he is the best at Jiu-Jitsu he has ever seen, Sakikabara wouldn't let him fight in Pride, the NSAC suspended him and Even Fedor said that would be a fight he wouldn't even look at unless big money were involved and the rules would be NSAC or Sambo.

Just curios Bluto. Who do you think is the P4P? Not arguing here just curious as you have ahead. BJ? Silva? GSP?

He dosen't have an educated choice, he just likes to start shit and then dissapear when people call him out on it.

100% truth right there. the thing is the fight he lost wasn;t even really lost it was do to a cut from an illegal elbow..so he really has never lost. the guy is a machine and i would argue with anyone that he IS the best

Fedor has well over 100 fights and a win is a win.

But of course! We should count all Fedors fights. As well as Yoshidas medals from the Olympics in Judo, Brock Lesnars 33-0 record as a senior wrestling and Rickson Gracie's 400 street fights! Put them in there on the MMA record at Sherdog!

Rickson is now 411-0!  :D

And with that I guess the P4P discussion is settled too. We've got a winner!

I don't know you so you might be a cool guy in person (but I doubt it) so don't take this the wrong way....

As a moderator you represent MMA on Ron's board. Do you understand this little known fact?

Haven't made a dent have I?

P.S. You are off on the number of Rickson's fights.

I'll leave you alone now Mr Moderator. Way to represent............... . ;)

First you went on bitching about MindSpin and now me, why don't you give it a rest? You don't win an argument on here by being a little whiny bitch.

And whether it's 400 fights or whatever doesnt matter - the point is IT DOESNT COUNT. IT SHOULDNT COUNT. IT NEVER WILL.

Ok bro.

I Just wanted to see something and I was right.

You are the guy that has to scream before he fights because he can't handle the surge of Epinephrine.

I like Mindspin. Never had an issue with him or you for that matter.
