Strikeforce: Their Days are Numbered
« on: August 15, 2009, 11:08:21 PM »
I thought Strikeforce would be the one org. that could hang with the UFC.
I am really let down by tonight's fights.

Funny thing about it all is that they used two woman to sell the entire card
and that fight was a blowout/mismatch.

Cyborg is a great fighter, but the entire world knows she is carrying extra testosterone.

Production was also super cheesy tonight. What has happened to Strikeforce?

Diaz is an asshole, but I see him returning to the UFC soon. As much as I hate his personality and am
baffled as to why he acts the way he does, he is an exciting fighter.

Nick and his brother hate everyone and bring excitement and incentive to their fights, why people are so against that is beyond me. I agree that you should always be respectful to your opponet, but it is fighting after all.

Strikeforce and Dream are supposed to merge-- They have a legit 205 star in Moussasi, the best heavyweight in the world in Fedor, the only women who are worth mentioning in MMA and an international lineup  that creates more of a buzz than the UFC does from the global perspective of fight fans.

While yesterdays fights weren't earth shattering, they were interesting and I am sure the next show will be better.

BTW- To whoever said Fedor was a pussy for not taking the Babalu fight when Barnett crapped out-- Look at what Mousassi did to him in a minute; Fedor would have decapitated him.

Unless they can start tapping the lucrative PPV market, I wouldn't necessarily call them a UFC competitor.  They do have some talent, especially with the joint promotions with Dream and M1.  Lots of good Red Devil fighters as well as the stable in Japan.

I don't dislike Nick Diaz because of his attitude about his opponents,  I just think he's kind of a bitch for backing out of a fight because he can't give up weed for 6 weeks.

They don't need to tap the PPV market if they can get great fighters, put on great fights and then get a major network deal and plenty of big sponsors.  The sponsors are out there.  MMA is huge now and getting sponsors should be easier than ever.  Elite sucked the way they did there whole production.  If done right StrikeForce and get bigger and better.  PPV is a great way to generate income, but Network TV could really generate a huge financial reward.

The problem emerging is that the UFC is not putting on the best fights and it is questionable if they have all the best fighters in the world.  Plus, StrikeForce is really hitting the "world circuit".  MMA is not just in the US or Europe.  If StrikForce markets there shit right they could easily be #1 MMA organization.

The UFC puts on a lot of cards. Often two a month. Not every card is going to be the best ever.
I hope Strikeforce does make it. I was just saying that this last event was pretty cheesy if you ask me.
Strikeforce will NEVER be bigger than the UFC. The UFC would never let that happen. They would just buy them out like they did with
pride

I don't care if SF is ever bigger than UFC. As long as there is competition and maybe one day co promotions across all organizations for the sport of MMA and for the fans. I'm getting tired of Org vs Org.

Pride will always be top dog imo, unless Dream takes over  :D heheh.

Who has better fights?  Who has better competition?  The UFC is where the money is right now bro.  These other organizations only put on shows by grabbing fighters off the scrap heap from Dana's discard pile.

Looking forward to the Marquardt/Maia fight.

Vera v. Krystof should be exciting as well.  Napao is on the undercard, as is Marcus Aurelio.  Handy/Nog doesn't have the same luster, and Silva/Jardine not soo much for me.
