Never in my lifetime have I lived further than a short walking distance from the Pacific Ocean (on both sides of it and in the center of it too), but I eventually got sick of sitting in it, swimming in it, surfing in it, and pissing in it, and looking at the sun set behind it, so I moved out to the LV desert.
Now I only see an occasional glass of water and sometimes I take a shower even if I don't need one.
But just recently we went boating on Lake Mead and I have to admit that I did get a bit homesick. That is one hell of a big lake and even has waves a bit similar to those waves miles off the Waikiki shoreline where Hobi-Catting was my favorite past-time.
Places I've lived:
San Francisco
Sausalito
Jenner
Rio Nido
Santa Monica
Oceanside
San Clemente
Laguna Beach
Waikiki
Woodland Hills - Furthest ever from the ocean - Eleven miles through Topanga Canyon
A few islands off the Japan coastline - very short time period
Danang
Hill 34 - Loved it here until we got knocked off
Las Vegas - No water at all in sight.
