Texas lawmaker to introduce anti-immigration bill (Since Feds won't enforce the law, state's will)

AUSTIN, Texas -- A Texas lawmaker says she plans to push for a law similar to Arizona's get-tough immigration measure.

San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle report Wednesday that Republican Rep. Debbie Riddle of Tomball says she will introduce the measure in the January legislative session.

The new Arizona law would require local and state law enforcement to question people about their immigration status - and make it a crime for immigrants to lack registration documents.

Riddle says if the federal government did its job "Arizona wouldn't have to take this action, and neither would Texas."

We need to bring all this to a head at some point.

I'm sick of this crap and these scumbags need to go the fuck home if they want official documents to be in other languages.

S.O.D. produced for me what typified the 80's Thrash metal movement.

Gov. Brewer in Arizona got a 16 point bump in her approval rating AFTER signing the bill. This is a winning issue for the right.By the way ,compare that bump to Obamas after signing health care.

It damn well should be. Speaking passable English should be a requirement for citizenship. It's amazing that American-born hispanic children can grow up to be adults and not be able to speak a word of English.

BTW i don't get all this anti-immigration sentiment on here.  Considering the amount of fiscal conservatives who seem to be opposed to amnesty and immigration from the south.  It seems at odds with the real numbers done by real studies.  Currently more than half are currently working on the books, i.e. paying income tax.  They all pay taxes on goods and services used including accommodation, in a comprehensive study it was found that "approximately $80,000 more in taxes than they receive in state, federal and local benefits over their life times".

These studies are done by the council of economic advisers, the national research council, the executive office of the white house etc.  It tells you exactly why no one has decided to 'kick them out'  because it would cost us more money than it's worth.  We would a) have to pay for the deportation etc, b) lose revenue from the taxes paid, c) miss out on revenue from the other 50% who work currently off the books and would be on the books if given amnesty.  Economically it DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.  So as fiscal conservatives how can you back kicking them all out?

But it's not the official language, nothing is. Why does this bother you so much?  What if the official language became an original native american dialect?  would you support it or is it only a language you understand and grew up with that should be official?

Because it's ridiculous to have to deal with Spanish speaking people in an English speaking country? Why is it that everyone that immigrated here back in the 1800s or whatever learned the language yet these hispanic immigrants can't? These people don't even make an attempt to learn English and therein lies the problem.

And yes, it bothers me. Last year I volunteered 6 hours every week in the ER at a hospital near my school that was located in a town that was about 90% hispanic so I had to deal with these people all the time. Every time I helped with getting people signed in and situated at the front desk. I had more than one incident where someone got pissed at me because I couldn't speak Spanish or understand their jibberish. Never mind the fact that it should be the other way around. Then the people running the volunteer program had the audacity to ask me to learn Spanish to make it easier to deal with them. Why should I have to learn Spanish? Why can't they learn English? It's ridiculous.

English should be the official language of this country and anyone living here she be required to speak a passable version of it.

haha  ::) you've been exposed as a fraud, a wannabe fiscal conservative but with no understanding that immigration is what helps this country grow.  Amnesty is the only way forward, you can debate the morals but you can not debate the economic impact.

BTW how's your state doing in the whole 'leaving the union' thing?  I wish it would actually then the mexicans could take it back as their own.  Be pretty funny to see you all becoming 'illegals' as you flee the mexican army.

Immigration does indeed help this country grow. ILLEGAL immigration does not. No one on this board is against legal (keyword here being legal) immigration.

Why?  Canadians have french speakers in their country, it doesn't cause any issues other than to those who sell goods there that need bilingual labels.  I don't see any disharmony up there people accept it as a way of life, so should you.

Actually, it does cause problems as there are more than a few French Canadians who want Quebec to be a separate country due to its isolation from the rest of English speaking Canada.  ::)
