Does anyone do pullups with added resistance? I just started incorporating added resistance to my pullups to increase the intensity, overall strength and improve the amount of reps I can do. Normally I can do 5 sets of 10-15 reps without added weight, but I'm throwing in sets with a 25 pound plate and a 45 pound plate. I weigh about 225 and can do 2 sets of the 25 pound plate for 8-10, and a set with the 45 for about 5-6 good reps. I'd like to be able to hit the 45 pound plate for about 3-4 sets of 10-12 reps. Thoughts on adding resistance?
You will most likely stagnate. Pullups are so bodyweight dependant, it would probably be easier hitting your goal just by losing weight than training your ass off. From people who can do a lot of them, like real gymnasts, they don't do much, if any , bar pull ups. They do stuff like front and back levers on bars and rings, which are more demanding, but have great carryover to pull ups and chins. They are also lean and don't have the heavyweight body type.
