Trump's right.  Whether you agree with the plan or not, it's tough to disagree that it'll cost a shitload of repub their job.

This morning on Fox and Friends, perennial presidential candidate Donald Trump lambasted the GOP over the Ryan plan. Calling it a “death wish,” Trump noted that the plan’s “horrendous” timing delivered the GOP “an impossible loss” and will cause serious losses in future elections:

TRUMP: Hey look, I’m looking at the Republicans and seeing things that are like they have a death wish. Whether its the Ryan plan — which is a death wish. For him to have brought this plan out at this time. Why doesn’t allow Obama — you know these are not good business people or these are not good chess players — why doesn’t he allow Obama come out first, why does he have to come out with a plan? You know, he’s a nice guy and all that but that’s irrelevant. This plan caused a loss in an area that never loses for a Republican, you know that, in upstate New York. An impossible loss.

they might have an easier time selling it if they weren't handing out corporate tax cuts at the same time

end the various wars, close tax loopholes, get rid of corporate welfare and raise taxes back to those crazy high levels we had under Clinton

start with that and then they might have an argument on why we still need to eliminate medicare and instead give an 85 year old Alzheimers patient a voucher to go out and buy private health insurance from a company with administrative costs of 25% and a CEO who is a billionaire

How about the federal government gets out of the healthcare business? They created the tax loopholes....... as well as the mess known as health insurance. The government is the problem always has been and always will be. We have a constitution that limits the powers of the federal government, but why let that stop them ::)

why should they?

Medicare is a pretty damn popular program and the constitution also says that congress has the power to provide for the common defence and general welfare of the united states so why shouldn't that include some health care for senior citizens (the vast majority of whom have paid into the system their entire working life)

yes - if it was ONLY the mdicare thing, I think it'd get more support.

however, by sprinking 10% tax cuts to the top earners on top of that, well, it sure looks like one is paying for the other ;)

No doubt, Ryan did it to suck up to future donors.  But he's really wrecking the GOP 2012 chances with that.  how the heck do they lose that NY election?

The common defence and general welfare of the united states - that means the country no the individual, that is why there is a 10th Amendment and this sort of shit is supposed to be handled at the state level. That is why they should get out of it, not to mention that have no constitutional authority in the matter. Face it the federal government created a ponzi scheme, they just didn't take into consideration that people are living longer and the work force that is supposed to foot the bill can't keep up.

I really don't care if it "wrecks" the GOP, the problem is then we have the democrats who can't even pass a fucking budget.

so you're saying that this simple sentence says the states should provide for the general welfare of the cititizen even though it doesn't even contain the phrase "general welfare" ?

Isn't it in the general welfare of the united states to have healthy citizens and (to add education to the mix) also well educated citizens.  One could easily argue that both healthcare and education are necessary for the common defense as well
