I had Gears pt. I and, while its graphics were spectacular for the time (and even now), I just couldn't get into it.
Not to derail the thread, but
to totally derail the thread, I think the following games are far superior:
Final Fantasy VI (pt. 3 Americano, as gh15 would say  )
Super Mario 3 and/or Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country. It's as fun and diverse a platformer as any 16-bit Mario game, and it has graphics that blow the doors off anything else the SNES had to offer.
Chrono Trigger. Enough said.
Red Dead Redemption. Again, enough said. WOW.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I'm only sad it's not been released in HD with new stages. It is THE perfect game IMO.
Fallout 3, with or without the expansion packs.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Fucking amazing! Definitely worthy of an all-time top 5 placing.
Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic was also pretty swole. Too bad its cutscenes were so cheap.
Fighting games? Uhf. That's a tough call. I thought SF Alpha 2 was about as fluid as anything I'd ever seen. SF3 and its iterations were beautiful, but some of the new characters annoyed me (especially seeing as how some of them were cheap rip-offs of SF2 peeps). And since I've not played all of the Neo-Geo ones, eh *shrugs*
Call of Duty? I've enjoyed most of them. "Black Ops" was pretty fucking wild. I figure the series as a whole deserves a mention if not for a particular entry.
Speaking of, I know a shitload of Zelda wankers. Convince me that anything post "Ocarina of Time" is worth a damn and I'll pay you cash money via PayPal
