The IFBB never forgave him for jumping ship and when he returned, they placed him so low it was fucking criminal!

Baker never "returned", as he didn't compete in the IFBB in the first place. After winning the 1990 USA, he went straight to the WBF, as did Jim Quinn and Troy Zuccolotto (post winning the '90 North American and '89 Nationals, respectively).

Aaron Baker = one of the most underrated bodybuilders ever.

Fully agree! I remember watching an IFBB show in FLorida, maybe 95 where he came in 2nd to Flex. Hard to believe he was supposedly only 210 lbs.

Well....Ronnie's routines haven't been all that majestic, either. See the 1994 Olympia.

The WBF was an embarrassment to the sport.

I beg to differ. Because of the WBF, the IFBB had to start ponying up the $$$$ to their bodybuilders. How much longer do you think some of those IFBB guys would have stayed put, watching their WBF brethren collect six-figure contracts while they got peanuts in the IFBB?

Gary Strydom was (perhaps) the first guy to win $100,000 at a pro show. Eddie Robinson stated the he made more money in ONE YEAR with the WBF than he would have in four years with the IFBB.

Heck, some pros today are JUST NOW getting the type of money that the WBF guys got 20 years ago. And, for what it's worth, we even have some IFBB pros, mimicking some WBF gimmicks. Take Toney Freeman's executioner routine. Does it look familiar? It's a dead ringer for Johnnie Morant's WBF gimmick.

Had McMahon not had the federal issues he did, the WBF may have become the premiere pro league, with the IFBB going the way of NABBA.

i don't think ifbb would have folded, but mcmahon had some insight.i think the characters were ok potrayed in the magazine they had but onstage was just bad.that was the first magazine that showed bbers not tanned and smooth offseason fully at least for that time.

One year Aaron was competing in the Arnold Classic and Arnold commented on TV about Aaron's lack of calf development.  Very next major contest his calves looked like that mess.  Blame Arnold.  If anyone has the televised Arnold from like 94 to 97 you can watch it and laugh.  Arnold is terrible as a commentator.  Aaron went nuts with Esciline and only God knows what else in those calves?

Unless I missed something, NABBA hasn't folded. It's been rendered all but irrevelant, though. There was a time when the result of the NABBA Mr. Universe (and other contests) were printed in MuscleMag, IronMan, and MD.

The 1991 WBF Championship was great. I finally got to see it in its entirely (20 years later), when I bought the tape off Amazon last year. But, I saw the results and footage of the contest a week after it happened on WWF SuperStars. Back in the day, when you had to wait MONTHS for contest results in the magazine, seeing the outcome of a show just a week later was a big deal.

The 1992 show, the one I saw the day it happened (which cost me $15 on pay-per-view) was LOUSY, obviously because McMahon tested them for everything but the kitchen sink, three months out from the event.
