The WBF was an embarrassment to the sport.
I beg to differ. Because of the WBF, the IFBB had to start ponying up the $$$$ to their bodybuilders. How much longer do you think some of those IFBB guys would have stayed put, watching their WBF brethren collect six-figure contracts while they got peanuts in the IFBB?
Gary Strydom was (perhaps) the first guy to win $100,000 at a pro show. Eddie Robinson stated the he made more money in ONE YEAR with the WBF than he would have in four years with the IFBB.
Heck, some pros today are JUST NOW getting the type of money that the WBF guys got 20 years ago. And, for what it's worth, we even have some IFBB pros, mimicking some WBF gimmicks. Take Toney Freeman's executioner routine. Does it look familiar? It's a dead ringer for Johnnie Morant's WBF gimmick.
Had McMahon not had the federal issues he did, the WBF may have become the premiere pro league, with the IFBB going the way of NABBA.
