The math is so easy on this.   Obama is not going to be above 47 on election day.

I have an unrelated question and I don't want to start a thread.

Had we not "Saved" the "American" auto industry... I'm just curious... Wouldn't Honda, and Toyota have almost instantly gobbled up Ford and GM's market share filling that void and supporting the reliant industries?

???

yeah, that is the primary argument against romney here.

He assumes their market share would be just sitting there waiting for them.

Toyota and Honda build better vehicles, and obviously run better businesses.  They do the majority of their manufacturing here in the US, so what would be wrong with that?

its possible that a few overseas manufactures would have moved in and capitalized on the situation.

What Romney has said all along is they should have gone into bankruptcy and reorganize, get out from shitty union contracts and bad debt.

This is basically what they did but they got govt money and didnt get out of the shitty union contracts, they actually got shittier union contracts.

in a capitalist sense, nothing would be wrong with that.

in the jingoist, patriotic, "USA!" way, it would be better for the US firms to maintain that market share.

Interesting given your penchant for complaining about outsourcing.

Toyota and Honda outsource tens of thousands of jobs from Japan and yet no one cries about that. Amusing.

It's funny, actually, considering they're doing their manufacturing in non-union plants and they continue to be non-union despite the best efforts of the UAW and other scum to ruin that.

I don't know the history, why/how do they do their manufacturing in non-union plants and GM/Ford don't?
