we do have pros that look like the top bodybuilders of the 60s.  but they don't pose or flex.  they come out on stage, put their hand on their hip, do a quarter turn, do another quarter turn, then walk off stage.  We call it IFBB Men's Pro Physique.  they seem to be quite the draw, outselling many pro bodybuilding events
BRO......DON'T EVEN GO THERE......IFBB MEN'S PRO PHYSIQUE IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE 60S OR 70S......LARRY SCOTT.....ZANE....DRAPER ...ROBINSON.....THE LIST GOES ON......THESE GUYS WERE FANTASTIC....THE MEN'S PRO PHYSIQUE IS PACKED FULL OF GUYS THAT HAVE GOOD BEACH BUILDS....NOTHING MORE.....NOTHING LESS.

LARRY SCOTT AT 205 POUNDS....PUTS THE MEN'S PHYSIQUE AND THE IFBB PRO BODYBUIDERS TO SHAME.....TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK AT SCOTT'S ARMS.......WORLD CLASS!!!

Besides that Robinson and Zane were at their peak in the late 70s and early 80s, you're picking the best of the best.  Look at the rest of the guys from the 60s and even early 70s and they have similar builds as this new Physique category.  Zane in the 60s and early 70s would certainly fit in the Physique division.  Look at the Physique division from this past NPC Nationals, especially the tall classes.  http://pics.musculardevelopment.com/index.php?mode=contest&contestcode=29 They look like bodybuilders from the 60s and early 70s.

But my post was to criticize the Physique contests.  It's stand and model.   No flexing.  So the winner is who looks best relaxed, which certainly is not the same as who would look best flexed.  And those board shorts.  Why should anyone waste time on squats when no one will ever see their legs?

Why not just put the guys in posing suits and call it Classic Bodybuilding?

But people are buying tickets. At this weekend's LA Pro Physique Championships (Matt Christianer won), the auditorium was packed.  Probably more so than the Flex LA Championships, certainly more so than the last few Ironman.  In recent years, look at how many men's pro bodybuilding contests go two years and then the promoters give up.  The fans aren't showing up for the mass monsters.

Just as Pro Figure has pushed out women's pro bodybuilding (this year there are 5 pro bodybuilding contests, and 20 pro figure), Pro Physique has the chance of pushing out men's pro bodybuilding.  (we'll have to wait and see if women's pro physique pushes out pro figure).

Larry had no shoulder width, but excellent arms trained under Vince Gironda back in the day. Claimed to have attained his arm size from the Preacher bench curls but it's genes he could done any kind of curl and same result.

Because you no longer have access to knowledgeable sports doctors who can scientifically determine optimal doses and write prescriptions for human grade steroids manufactured by real pharmaceutical companies.

U do have a point in one of jays recent vids filmed while he was driving jay discusses how popular men's physique is becoming and more and more guys aspire to those physiques and competitions rather than taking up "bodybuilding" and competing in bbing
