I'm surprised pro bodybuilding is even possible under our current police state. You would think these guys would get busted?

Maybe Joe Weider has friends in high places.

Because events like the Arnold Classic are organized by Jim Lorimer and ... (right!) and they 'support the troops' with those patriotic clowns during the beginning.

So someone is a schmoe by default, if he/she appreciates modern bodybuilding?
No, they are schmoes by choice.  Their choice.

Look at the Mr. O audience and it looks a great many "men" chose poorly.

You're not answering my question, but regarding your vision:
a) Why would every man that visits the 'O be a schmoe by default?
b) What about the females in the audience?
c) Does this only apply to pro bodybuilding?
d) What brings you to this forum?

Thank you.

Oooookay...But I would not call it a "vision",  nor a revelation or even an epiphany. I would call it the truth.  On to your questions, sir!

a)  Where did I claim that every man that goes to the O is a schmoe?  I didn't.  You did, abeit by association via my words regarding a "rolling sea of schmoes".

b)  What about the females in the audience?  I spoke about the schmoes, not the females.  If you wish to expound upon this aspect of the O, by all means do so.

c)  I would say the incidence of schmoes rises in proportion to the size of the bodybuilders in a show.

d)  I used to be a bodybuilder but that was nearly four decades ago.  I prefer the physiques of the forties through the early eighties and loathe "female" bodybuilding even more than what male bodybuilding has become.  I like my women to be women.  ;D

You're welcome, and thanks for asking!

Yes, good point!

Much of the city’s deeply entrenched fitness culture stems back to Jim Lorimer. The 85-year-old Worthington native’s resume is daunting: World War II veteran, Penn State law grad, FBI special agent, mayor of his hometown. But his legacy is athletics.

In the late 1950s, while working for Nationwide, Lorimer led the Ohio Track Club’s women’s team to the national championship, leading to roles as secretary of U.S. Olympic Committee for Women’s Athletics and eventually chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1964-68.

Around that time, he started hosting Olympic-style weightlifting competitions and bodybuilding shows in Columbus. The year 1970 was a turning point, and not just because that’s when Russian weightlifter Vasily Alekseyev became the first man to lift 500 pounds at one of Lorimer’s meets in Columbus.

More importantly, Lorimer convinced young bodybuilding star Arnold Schwarzenegger to take a red-eye flight from London’s Mr. Universe contest to compete in Lorimer’s Mr. World competition the next day in Columbus. Schwarzenegger was so impressed with Lorimer’s event that he vowed to make Lorimer his promoting partner when he retired from competing. Five years later, Schwarzenegger flew to Columbus and partnered over a handshake. After teaming to promote Mr. World and Mr. Olympia bodybuilding events for more than a decade, they launched the Arnold Classic (now Arnold Sports Festival) in 1989.

Wow, didn't knew much about Jim, but this explains even more. And regarding the Weider bros, guess their ethnicity..

Like i said before, make the vacuum pose mandatory and bodybuilding will be pleasant to the eye again.

And 4 minute posing routines also. A mass monster would colapse within minute 1:30 mark.
haha imagine branch doing vacuum pose ;D
