1. The only scam about multi-vit packs is that you need to take them every day. I buy Animal Pak and have been for years. I take 1 pack per week. The tin lasts me roughly 6 months. Vitamins do not directly build muscle obviously but if your body is up to snuff on the stuff you will feel better and be healthier making gains and overall quality of life better. Worth it.
Remember with all your systems in balance your body will be in a much better position to put on muscle. But the body does not need a huge influx of vitamins and minerals every single day...
2. Creatine. http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/new_uses_for_creatine There are many benefits to taking the stuff, and why not, it's dirt cheap.
2lbs of creatine is like $15 or less that's 0.10 or less per day..
The greatest flaw with your theory here is assuming that certain micronutrients are NOT essential......THEY ARE. That's why they are called essential LOL. They are required for the most basic of physiological functions.
Also, to be honest, you have no fucking idea what your body needs or doesn't need until you get a complete metabolic analysis, checking blood, urine, saliva, for your levels of these. Until then, you're talking out of your ass regarding what you think you need or don't need nutritionally. Not pickin on you bro, but this bro-scientific concept in our sport needs to be corrected.
