Damn FitChick, sounds like you really do know Rocco.... a lil heart broken are we ? maybe a lil disenfranchised, didnt get a ticket to Ride the Jones? Maybe a lil jealous eh? not what you wanted in the grand scheme of things ...??

Jaejonna - No I don't know him and what would I be jealous of exactly??? I am his fan just like many others on here. The post was about his future plans and possible career paths addressed to Richard directly. Why would you have to write something not relative to the subject anyway? Got nothing better to do than just hang around here in this site and post some stupid comments?

Questions, questions, questions......?

All I will say is this, if I feel like competing again, I will. If I don't, I won't. Simple as that. Doesn't mean I have to stop training and eat like crap. It's called life choices. As we all have them.

But I think there are other pro's and other more important issues to worry about in this world instead of worry about "where I am"? I am where I want to be. There you have it.

Moratorium!

Sincerely,

Richard Jones

Don't have to sound bitter, Richard.  :-\
We were wondering, at least I was, whether you were competing again or not. You came off VERY impressive in the beginning of your "career" and then disappeared. GETBIG is a bodybuilding forum (so some say)  :P so to wonder "where you are" should be no surprise.

hi,
Richard, I think you have the wrong idea about your current situation.  I see from your prior posts you are planning on getting an MBA and then trying to "make it" in the white collar world.  While your aspirations are noble your ideas of what an education will do for you might be wrong.
If you think after getting your MBA you are going to step in to a well paying management position, i got news for you, you aren't.
100,000 MBA's are awarded each year in this country.  Unless you are good enough to get in to a top 20 school, you are wasting your time.  Richard, an MBA is not going to be your ticket to get in to a good paying job.  An MBA is just a credential that professionals use to enhance themselves in the jobs they ALREADY HAVE.  That's the key right there.  So, after you graduate you are going to be approaching 40 years old and have no professional work experience to compliment your newly minted MBA.  I highly recommend you get a job NOW in a field you want to work in and then use education to advance yourself in that field.
Don't get an MBA just because your brother has one.  Don't get an MBA because you feel yourself as inferior and have something to prove because you are african-american.  Don't focus on the degree itself as being a ticket to get something, you have to focus on job skills.  The degree won't get you a job, but your job skills and what you offer the company will.  In today's world, you must be able to communicate complex technology ideas to others that can help the company save money, for example.  If you can't do that then you will never make it.

just my $0.02.

BTW, Richard, i still remember the little confrontation we had at Max Muscle in 1997 in Orange, CA...very interesting stuff how you would know all that..

CMD, thanks for your opinion. It's worth exactly what you said......$0.02!

BTW, I have no recollection of any "confrontation" in 97'. It was 8 years ago and your still thinking about it? I don't know what happend or even care. Obviously, you still are bitter. Enjoy Mundo....enjoy! I wish you well.

Peace in the Middle East!

If I may reflect upon this a little bit, getting a job and then getting your Masters is a better option.  There are a LOT of specialized masters, other than more generalized MBA's that sort of "tongue and groove" from B.A. or B.S.  In my office there are about 4 pursuing their MBA and they are only 1 promotion up from entry level, so they apply what they work to everyday life.  Getting the MBA will take on about 15-20k on to their salary, not a lot when you think of it but certainly worth it, IMO.

Add that to the fact my employer is going to PAY for my MBT (masters in business taxation) I save 33k right there with the U.S.C. program, and going to night school looks mighty sweet with your employer come time somebody gets promoted, somebody stays, and somebody goes.

There are a lot of other factors though and where you live is one of them.  If you are under 25, live in a relatively moderate area for housing market, and your parents might be able to help you, maybe banging through with the Master's is the way to go.  If you live on either coast, Chicago, or somewhere like this and you are choosing between making good salary, strapping up and going to school as well, and being able to get in a house payment, take the job.  If a house is 700k now it's gonna be 850k when you get out of school.

Man its a shame to see such talent wasted, richard jones is one of the most marketable bodybuilders around i am sure he could get a good contract with muscle tech or one of those companies if he really wanted to. I think he does not have the guts or a real love for completing because with his looks and talent he could make decent money from bodybuilding if he really wanted to.

BigAlski, pretty logical post. I'll be the first to say, sometimes school is overrated. Degrees don't mean much. However, it gives you leverage over others that don't possess them. Although, I haven't said where I work, I am happy and the MBA IS going to help. I don't do things for nothing. But, I just keep to myself and do what I comes to me or I have interest in.

You have to start somewhere right? No one just gets to start at the top. I'm prepared to start at the bottom no matter what degree(s) I have. But I will tell you that I'm willing to put in the time in where I work. I'm sure you have and many others in their respective professions. You have to work your way up in life and in any profession.

BTW....Disgusted, I don't have any feathers. Sorry....luv ya!

You guys have fun with this post. I'm going on vacation.......to Detroit for Superbowl! SEATTLE vs. PITTSBURGH! Leaving this week........

Sincerely with respect,

Richard Jones

P.S. I love GetBig....you guys are funny. Wish I had more time to post. I sneak on when I can.

True dat.....true dat! I believe it is ok to have other interests outside of any profession. I will state the fact that I love bodybuilding and have no plans on stopping. However, I have been staying in shape doing Extreme martial arts. That IS fun. Ground fighting is cool too. But makes you sore when you're getting twisted up by dudes half your size. That Gracie stuff is no joke! You all should try it.....but leave your "lifts" at the door cuz they ain't gonna matter. Everything hurts as we speak. Legs, shins, forearms, elbows and especially my wrists. Oh, and my lower back. But I'm going again tomorrow night for more abuse.

Sincerely with respect....and pain,

Richard Jones

I must throw in my 2 cents here-

An MBA is a tool. Just like a laptop or a screwdriver.  It's a toolbox of skills and shrewdness, if you use it right.

It is what you make it.  I was an elementary teacher 3 years ago, earning 34k a year.  I decided to get my MBA.  The exposure to new ideas, competitive minds, strategy, finance, marketing, and importance of tech aspects changed my life considerably.   One year into it, I got a slew of tech certifications in my spare time and learned web design.  18 months in, I was teaching web design to adults and running a school's network.  Now at $43k.  24 months in, I was running a website for 1/3 of a university and managing tech projects on the side.   Hello, $52k.   Grow, grow, grow.   It's florida, where incomes are low, but I was happy oto be earning this just 2 years with my Bachelors in teaching.

Two months before graduation with the MBA, I went into business for myself.   Built up a portfolio of clients and jumped.  I no longer talk about my income, but I can tell you I am happy about everything except how much I'm now paying in taxes  :-\

The MBA taught me about competitive strategies.  In addition to many websites, I do two to three phone consults a day, and more and more of them involve competitive strategy/marketing.  Sure, I build networks and websites.  But more than that, the MBA taught me to read people, situations, and make money for all parties in every situation.

RJ, I'm proud of you for earning the MBA.  You will never regret it.  The confidence, skill, wit, and shrewdness you gain is priceless.

Guy has a great overall build, all comes down to total sacrifice with time and the pressure to compete at that level with temptation to use more of everything that got you their in the first place.imagine him and ray together at their peaks competing together.would have made good flex cover .good luck ,at least he's one jacked up mba student.
