what i heard in regard to the lawsuit was ..... the judge was about to award Dave $300000.00 (indexed to millions in todays economy); weider's lawyer grabbed him outside the courtroom and said ' i just talked to the judge and you're gonna lose. joe doesn't want you to walk away with nothing so he'll right you a check right now for $17000.00 so we can drop the case and get out of here.' Dave believed him and took the $17k
i can't validate or verify, but sounds like the way weider's lack of ethics worked
If true, then I'm tending to place more fault on Dave than Weider. No disrespect to Mr. Draper, but it seemed more than a little foolish to buy that line. If the Weider's truly wanted him to have anything more than they'd already given him, they wouldn't have been in court!
And, why would they give him anything at all more if they were under no legal obligation to do so? That should have sent up at least one big red flag in Dave's mind.
