the TRUE conservatives kept pointing out that the dude was selectively following federal laws when it was handy for him. He doesn't recognize them, but he pays federal taxes cause he'd go to jail otherwise. but he knew he couldn't be criminally prosecuted for disobeying this particular federal BLM law thing, so he ignored it for 20 years and gained quite a strategic advantage over his competitors by not paying the fees than they had to pay.
How is this different from any other person, entrepreneur, corporation etc.?
Isn't that what most people do when it comes to gov't taxes... striving to pay only the legal minimums?
If there is a legal loophole that does not require you to pay, would put you financially at risk were you to pay it, and could potentially strip you of your rights were you to pay it, ...would YOU, or anyone else in their right minds pay it?
By your argument, he's supposed to let excess gov't fees drive him out of business, because his competition allowed those same excess fees to drive them out of business. As an entrepreneur he found a competitive edge in the marketplace, and used it to his advantage. It's no different than someone who builds a better mouse trap.
He's more of an expoliter than a true patriot... and the 'red meat' conservative media loved him when he was inciting near-riots and dissing obama.
Perhaps, ...but no one should scorn an individual who exploits loopholes in laws, especially when those laws were implemented for the sole purposes of screwing over that individual to begin with.
Of course I don't extend the same generosity to multi-nationals who buy the politicians and in many cases write the darned bills themselves. That's not exploiting a competitive advantage you find, that's just corporate tyranny.
