Gold and Silver are the only true money.  Central Banks and governments know this...that's why they stock pile and have been net buyers for the past 8 years.  In public, they denounce gold because they need the people to continue to transact in debt based fiat notes.  When a fiat currencies life cycle ends the new currency is always based in gold and silver.  Central banks and government know this and are preparing.

Lets look to the great depression as an example.  Economic collapse does not have to mean a Mad Max scenario.  In a great depression the "intelligent" rich will get even RICHER.

I sold all my physical gold and silver in early November. About $20k worth. Am taking a break from work so need more passive income, so the precious metals had to go as they don't pay interest or dividends.

I sold when the price went below the support level of $1180. The chart doesn't look good. I will buy gold or gold miners when gold starts uptrending again, at the moment the gold price looks uncertain. Looks like it wants to head back to the $800 - $1000 area:

Good post.  Gold should be treated as a storage of value not an investment.  Change your mindset to not think of gold as a quantity of Federal Reserve notes but more like real estate.   Both will always have value and allow you to keep and transfer wealth generationally through your family.  There may be periods where it's advantageous to exchange gold for a specific fiat currency to invest but try to maintain some of the 3 historically recognized stores of value.

Human psychology, laws, demographics, cultures, etc are far different than they were 80 years ago. Look what happens in a US city when a group of people don't get their way in a criminal case having nothing to do with them personally, for instance. I hate to see what will happen if things ever occur that really affect those people firsthand - such as the US going bankrupt and not being able to give those people entitlements they are accustomed to anymore.

How have you done so far, Mr Intelligent Rich guy? Any other tips besides "buy physical gold"? I'm dead serious. I cannot predict the future (unlike lots of guys here), but I've been around enough to know that I wouldn't wish to see a depression, and that gold probably won't be the savior some might think it will be.

Most people trading Gold aren't even trading "Physical" Gold. And even people who are buying bulk gold are ending up getting bunk gold. Their filling the gold with bronze or some other worthless metal and many don't have a clue. The GGews have been calling in all gold for some time now...
