CONCLUSION
High-sugar diets may contribute substantially to cardiometabolic disease. While naturally occurring sugars in the form of whole foods like fruit are of no concern, epidemiological and experimental evidence suggest that added sugars (particularly those engineered to be high in fructose) are a problem and should be targeted more explicitly in dietary guidelines to support cardiometabolic and general health.  Added sugars probably matter more than dietary sodium for hypertension, and fructose in particular may uniquely increase cardiovascular risk by inciting metabolic dysfunction and increasing blood pressure variability, myocardial oxygen demand, heart rate, and inflammation. Just as most dietary sodium does not come from the salt shaker, most dietary sugar does not come from the sugar bowl; reducing consumption of added sugars by limiting processed foods containing them, made by corporations would be a good place to start. Indeed, reducing processed-food consumption would be consistent with existing guidelines already in place that misguidedly focus more on the less-consequential white crystals (salt).  Future dietary guidelines should advocate substituting highly refined processed foods (ie, those coming from industrial manufacturing plants) for natural whole foods (ie, those coming from living botanical plants) and be more explicitly restrictive in their allowances for added sugars. The evidence is clear that even moderate doses of added sugar for short durations may cause substantial harm.

The amount of bullshit around diet is ridiculous. If everyone just stuck to the above, it would certainly help reduce the strain on our healthcare systems.

it's not just the sugar to blame but all high carb food such as rice, wheat, potatoes etc., human body doesn't need such high amounts of carbs we consume today because it can make sufficient amount of glucose that the brain needs from amino acids, without fat and protein in ur diet u will waste away but u can do well without carbs. Not that u have to but u can.
Yes the ''scientists'' back in the day were wrong when giving saturated fat a bad rep, high carb diets or high carb + high fat diets may cause high cholesterol, high triglycerides, high BP - all due to the powerfull nature of insulin. Insulin is so powerfull that it can really fuck u up if u consume lots of carbs. remember the food pyramid from 20 years ago? where the high carb products were at the bottom meaning they should be consumed the most of all food sources? Lol, this is why u have so many obese and diabetic people walking around.

u want to eat healthy? here's the tip:

fats: omega 3 sources, saturated fat from red meat and coconuts, some omega 6 but careful with these and some olive oil

protein: red meat, fish and eggs

carbs: vegetables(especially green leafy ones) and fruits like red fruits, citric fruit, some apples and pineapples here and there

U can say goodbye to gaining weight and bulking up on this regime(naturally of course) but ur body will be grateful ;)

This may all be true but it just doesn't make sense to me. All carbs, whether it's potatoes, spinach, jelly beans, apples, gluten free pasta..., is converted into glucose -- sugar. It's your body's preferred source of energy and if you don't get enough your body will convert protein -- amino acids, into glucose. Dr. Sears once referred to your brain as a glucose hog as it functions primarily on glucose, often referred to as blood sugar. That's why when people go on low/zero carb diets mental function is compromised. And everyone knows that your body has to maintain a certain level of blood SUGAR at all times or it will seized to function.

If sugar is so toxic why is it so important, or rather critical, that your body has a good supply of it?

your brain needs only 25% of it's energy demands coming from glucose and this glucose can be made by the body from amino acids. You will not die without dietary carbs but you will die without protein and fat. The brain functions normally on some ketones and glucose, the rest of the body can run on ketones and amino acids. So consuming glucose isn't that important.

And  people that go on such diets usually neglect fat intake. U have to increase fat intake when u go low carb

Yes, your body can convert amino acids into glucose but that is when you don't consume enough carbs. This is an adaptive response and not an ideal situation. Ketosis is not an ideal state for your body to be in.

And it's more like 20% of the calories consume and converted into glucose but that's a lot when you consider that the brain is only about 2% of your body weight.

I'm not sure I buy into this theory.  I've got a buddy that used to eat whatever he wanted (double cheeseburgers, cakes, pies, breakfast tacos, etc.).  He was in great shape, worked out a lot, low body fat, muscular, vascular, etc.  He had a quintuple heart bypass at the age of 55.  The cardiologist basically said his arteries were fucked, and blamed it on his diet.  He's still living today, and looks the same, just a little older now.  Basically he looked like a picture of health, but his body was a wreck inside.   :-\

Best bet is to exercise regularly and eat a well-balanced diet. I am not too sure why people make it more complicated than it has to be.  :-\ :-\
