just goes to show how much more popular and mainstream bodybuilding was in the late 70's and early 80's

you had arnold, zane and mentzer all three were highly popular and widely known, you could say  after that guard was done.

the sport got less and less popular, lets be real here, haney was not that popular and didnt have much fan fare.  yes he won 8 olympias

but outside the small cult fallowing, not many peopole knew who he was. this all goes to the bigger is better mentality  that overtook the

judging.  i would even venture to say that samir  was the last olympia winner who had a beautiful  build on him  after that all down hill

ever since.   dorian took over for  haney in the more is better department, i wonder how the sport would be today if the judges had

awared the title to someone such as flex wheeler,  lee priest of even shawn ray.

Zane wasn't "widely known" and neither was Mentzer. Schwarzenegger's being widely known has more to do with his movie career, not his being Mr. Olympia.

30 years ago Being Mr.Olympia at 5'11' 250 lbs was way more marketable (better) than the actual mr.O.....

Too bad Haney doesnt get the credit he deserves .

i agree 100 pct,,, wasn't zane's best look here tho..his legs late60's early 70's were big compared to later yrs ,i guess he brought them down and conditioned to get illussion of classic bbing he wanted..

Zane went as high as 220-225 in the late 60's/early 70's believe it or not. 1982 he was slightly over 200 at the Mr. O and in 1983 he was down to 180 pounds.

5'9 180 vs. 5'11 245...Are you kidding me?  Zane would wiped off the stage. And that 5'11 245 comes with a 32 inch waist, a vacuum and flaring lats.

Haney was well into his 250's in 1991.

I had that contest on VHS 90 O. Christian and Labrada destroyed Haney. Christian should have won, Labrada 2nd ,Haney should have been 3rd at most.

I agree, I thought Christian was better than Haney that year.
