I couldn't figure it out.
I got there around 6:30.
I walk in, and there are multiple very attractive women who are clearly dressed much nicer than one would normally go to shop for groceries.
No gym clothes, or really casual clothes.
It was as if people were dressed to go out, yet they were at Whole Foods. 
I was dressed in a suit for my job, as I am most days, but I sensed something was up.
There were more "samples" of foods in the aisles, etc. so that people could stop and talk to each other.

When I go shopping, I have a list, and I want to be in and out of there as quickly as possible to get home to the wife and kids.
I did tell the wife that if things ever go south between us, that I will just go to Whole Foods on singles night.  This way I won't have to go on all of the horrid dating sites that our one friend is on who is going through a divorce.

I generally don't like it there, everything is overpriced (no, im not a getbig millionaire   ), and the people tend to be very snobby. In Ontario, grocery stores aren't allowed to serve alcohol like a bar would. Just recently Loblaws was allowed to start selling beer, but still not like a bar. So I think I do know what I'm talking about, I just know what I like and what I don't.

Edit: re: $2 pizza/pint. With Canadian food prices, no way you're buying that at whole foods lol. Taxes alone wouldn't allow it.

no one is "snobby", you are just projecting that because your conditioned to think that based on preconceived ideas about the place. if you had been to whole foods in the states, you would know they are heavily geared to eating in, hanging out, tons of made to order foods. if you actually looked at pricing you would see that you can eat there affordably. the myth that whole foods is expensive isnt actually true. for one, the quality of food there so surpasses any another grocer, that it would be stupid for them to be cheaper. you get what you pay for. as far as beer, wine, vegetables, packaged stuff etc. its actually cheaper or the same at my whole foods than other stores. Wife and I eat dinner there alot, and can eat huge meals for under 12 dollars between the two of us. shit, chipotle costs more than that.
when you travel to the US, go to them and see how glorious they are, you wont be sorry

I don't demo in other grocery stores, only whole foods and health shops. I like sobeys, well lit, pricing is high but def not as high as whole foods. Loblaws does a good job too.
Look, I'm not trying to argue with you over what you like vs what i like, we all like different things and it just happens to be my preference lol.
I've been to whole foods in the states. I almost got that soy chicken instead of actual meat lol, they almost got me! Couldn't find actual chicken, so had to settle for fish and eggs with some veggies. This was in Boston, and from what I remember that meal ran me about $12 or so. Not as cheap as you make it out to be. But again, the food wasn't bad, it was actually pretty well done. I just prefer to cook my own food the way I like it or go to an actual restaurant. We have a place here called oliver and bonacini that has hands down the best veal I've ever had in my life. Expensive, but damn worth every penny. The keg is always good for a steak. Both places have some incredible sweet potato fries haha.

Lol if I liked shopping at whole foods I'd say it like it is. Why would I lie about that?
I love starbucks, for example, awesome coffee and good service. As uncanadian as this sounds, I'd take a starbucks coffee over a tim horton's coffee any day of the week, even though its like 3X the price.
But for groceries, I'd rather spend less and get more (you know, for those 18 meals a day we eat to get big  )
