This has been the same deal for 10 years now. It works for him.

I don't think it's only his technique I am feeling negative about, I think it's his frame and muscles, coupled with his face that makes it unbearable for me.

If Paul Dillet sat there doing slow curls, I could most definitely watch it.

I mean, I like to watch Jay walk around his house and talk about his dog. And to watch Ronnie sit and eat chicken for 15 minutes lol.

What can I say, I'm just a hater

Hard physical work is not required in modern bodybuilding. It's all about massive abuse of anabolic drugs and taking insulin "correctly" pre- and post-workout.

In the gym, pump up with some random machines and dumbells, and then get back to injecting and popping.

Heath is nothing more than a severely (and superficially) overinflated "champion".

Without his drugs and pump sessions, the guy would begin to dramatically shrink within weeks, if not days.

No lie. There's a serious manlet bodybuilder at my gym. Stands maybe 5'2. Maybe. He's extremely jacked most of the time. Massive. Recently there was a gap of no more than seven days when I hadn't seen him. Then, two days ago, when I'm at the gym squatting, there he is.

I swear his overall volume of muscular mass had shrunk by half.

I am not kidding. Half.

In no more than one or two weeks.

Phil's fate is identical.

What do u suggest him to do to impress u? Bench 500 pounds for reps, deadlift 800, or squat 600??

Dallas macarver is a bber that comes to mind who lifts extremely heavy, I doubt his body will hold up

This is bbing not powerlifting, who cares about heavy lifting if u can do 4 plates on the hammer strength and get results

Will you chill out, man.

No, he doesn't have to move tremendous weight in the gym, but for me, as with musicians, I need to see some passion for the activity.

An inkling of intensity, focus and heart.

Heath is just ... nothing.

Fortress is correct. Phil doesn't have to lift like a powerlifter. However, there is something pretty awesome when you see bodybuilders train hard. I mean, all the guys from the 70's trained HARD and they did not end up like Ronnie Coleman. Heck, Dorian Yates, despite some minor injuries, looks good to this day, and trained hard. There is something to be said about those who train hard and have passion. On the other hand, you're right in the sense that if Phil can lift light and only use machines and get good results, why does it matter? I guess it really doesn't. However, he is the epitome of ALL drugs, and if he is proud of training like shit, then that's his business--as you said, as long as he gets results.

Its not powerlifting, but it doesn't mean people don't like to see passion and intensity. Phil is boring and looks like he is going through the motions when he trains--it looks like he doesn't even want to be there. Sad that someone with such a poor work ethic is Mr. O because of his genetic response to drugs. It just goes to show how bbing has become ALL drugs.

I'd rather train like Phil if I don't have to end up looking like how Ronnie does now.  While what Ronnie did was nothing short of amazing, in the end we all now see that it is not the correct way to train long term if you'd like to stay in good health. Stimulate, don't annihilate - Lee Haney

Read this interview with Lee Haney about his training and you'll see examples of how light he trained for the purposes of saving his body. http://www.ironmanmagazine.com/are-you-stimulating-or-annihilating/

Lee may have only went as high as 315 on squats but Lee hasn't had to go through multiple painful surgeries. Lee can run, walk play sports and has his health. No offense to Ronnie but while we may have seen one of the greatest physiques of all time, at what cost? While Ronnie says he doesn't regret it. Any intelligent SANE person can see Haney's way is more desirable and healthy for the bodybuilder in the long run. Haney is right and has his body to show for it.  Haney is the greatest.

I basically do the same thing. After almost 40 years of training ,all you need to do is get blood into the area.

Actually fortress is wrong, who cares

At the end of the day Phil has 5 O wins so far and Jay has 4, not even debating if they are better bbers than the 90's guys, but the end outcome is all that matters

Well, I guess in this case, there is no right or wrong, since people have different training philosophy and methods.

Yes, the end outcome is all that matters, but people reach that end outcome by different ways, and have different beliefs about how to obtain that. Every person is correct in that sense, depending on their own philosophy of training.

So, subjectively Fortress is right, but is not necessarily right from an objective standpoint.

I'd agree with you, but then, this recent example of which I speak has really thrown me for a loop.

He literally deflated in one or two weeks.

Dramatically so.

Heath does what works for him so I can't hate on that.

But yeah, watching his workouts are a cure for insomnia.

His entire workout looks like a warm-up. There is no intensity to his movements, no desire, no heart. I am all about strict form and not a fan of grunting either.

I don't think it's that. When you watch the top guy train you want to see what makes him the best. People who love the iron want to at least see some intensity and drive. People love watching Steph Currys warm up routine because he gets into it.

I certainly don't want to see more overboard videos with screaming and horrible form but at least look like you're interested

He looks like a professional bodybuilder performing an efficient workout. Not to mention it's an arm workout, which isn't going to be flashy or "N-10s".

Just because he was mentioned in this thread, here's a Dallas McCarver arm workout. It looks pretty much the same as Phil Heath's. Any more into it than this and the person deserves to be shot.
