"Arnold Schwarzenegger has undergone emergency open-heart surgery ... TMZ has learned.

Sources connected to Arnold tell TMZ, the 70-year-old Schwarzenegger went to Cedars-Sinai Thursday for a catheter valve replacement. We're told the surgery is somewhat experimental and he developed complications.

Doctors were prepared in case the catheter valve replacement failed ... and quickly decided Arnold needed emergency open-heart surgery, which we're told lasted several hours.

This is not the first time Arnold has gone under the knife for heart surgery. He had an aortic valve replaced in 1997. At the time doctors didn't feel the procedure was urgently needed, but Arnold decided to do it while he was still young. He also said at the time the condition was congenital and had nothing to do with steroids.

As for his condition ... we're told he's stable."

And how in the fuck is he gonna be written into a Terminator reboot? He looks like a stumbling corpse. Hell, his presence as a Terminator in that shitty Claire Danes outing was pathetic, and that was, what, 15 years ago?!

He had to have both the pulmonic and aortic valves replaced do to a bad decision to do a Ross procedure last time. His problem aortic valve was replaced with his own pulmonary valve. A pulmonary allograft (valve taken from a cadaver) was then used to replace the his pulmonary valve.

This failed post op and one of the valves was redone (likely pulmonic).

This time they attempted to replace the pulmonic using a catheter based approach. That failed so they cracked his chest.

At least he went to Cedars this time and not USC.

I'm not surprised, the cath approach has it's limitations.

Your correct. It was supposed to be for high risk patents. I used to work for Edwards Lifesciences who developed it.

The original valve replacement outlived its expectancy, it was always on the cards he'd be having heart surgery again.

heart disease is the number 1 killer of humans, so why are tons of people dying from heart disease that are younger than arnold if steroids are to blame?

It's received FDA approval and it's cool to see performed live either through the femoral artery or small rib cut. It's meant for high risk patients because of potential complications and not being able to fully debride the failing valve. Preparing the root has always been key to a successful valve replacement.

Risks
Transcatheter aortic valve (not pulmonic) replacement (TAVR) carries a risk of complications, which may include:

Bleeding
Blood vessel complications
Problems with the replacement valve, such as the valve slipping out of place or leaking
Stroke
Heart rhythm abnormalities (arrhythmias)
Kidney disease
Heart attack
Infection
Death
