$15/hr + California COL = starving

simple math

The problem isn't the pay it's the location.

lol, yeah Vinces life is stellar. Hes fucking delusional and so is anyone that thinks like him.

Theres a HUGE difference between surviving and living life.

Using your logic I guess I can survive in Toronto off 15 an hour but if i had any sanity left I would realize it's a shit life. I've been there. no thanks.

So as I mentioned earlier  if you want to move to bumfuckville and live in a trailer, eating McDonald's while saving 200 dollars a month, be my guest. you win.

If you actually want to have a life, 15 dollars an hour in a major metropolitan city is going to be a major struggle and you'll end up using some type of assistance, dying broke, when  you should be enjoying retirement. That's a simple fact.

Ok, so your argument is this.

1. You must make $15/hr your whole life with no desire to move up

2. You must live in either New York, California, Toronto or you are living in Hicksville

3. You must eat out at places more expensive then McDonalds

4. You cannot drive an older vehicle

5. You must make financial decisions exactly the same as you would (i.e. you cannot save any money because you were unable to).

Your conclusion would be correct then in the above circumstance.

wow. I think Id rather kill myself. you actually posted that and think you're doing fine?

I'm not trying to be a dick but I'd be shitting my pants thinking about my retirement, unless you have some inheritance coming your way or plan on winning the lottery.

Hope.you dont end up single, hurt yourself  and lose 6 months of work.

You sound entitled.

What you call "living life" is probably considered a luxury by billions of people around the world.

It's a mindset that will get you nowhere in life.

Where: Chicago
Money in the bank: $3,500
Car: 2007 Toyota Corolla
Restaurants: TGIF's, Chillis, Outback
Retirement Savings: $6,000
Vacations: Grand Canyon, New Hampshire, Vermont, Empire State Building

I know you're trolling, but you are describing a middle class lifestyle, which is not bad considering how recent in history people can afford to do this.

I have a huge ego.

Good luck living beyond your means. One accident or injury and you will be flat broke.

Me? I could retire in my mid 40's if I wanted. 8)

I work where the work is located einstein. its out of necessity. I cant make what I make outside a large city.

Do whatever you want. But if you think you're going to retire on 10 dollars an hour supporting your unemployed girlfriend, go for it. Let us know how that works for you.

Someone described what is considered middle class and your response was that you would rather kill yourself than to live like that.

I'm just connecting the points.

hes in his mid 30s and has 6000 saved for retirement.  if you think that's being on track for a healthy retirement youre a fool. I'm just stating the facts.
you think that's middle class....ok

you said you were ok living off 10 bucks an hour., I'm not wasting another word on you. anyone that's been around will understand the absurdity of that statement.

more then half that will easily go to rent if you're not looking at basement dwellings.

not only that, the previous poster made an assumption that you're working as a couple . what if you're single? 15 dollars an hour will leave your ass broke. you wont save shit unless you're living in a cardboard box or with 4 other people or with your parents.

Hes a mortgage broker, they did a hell of job pre 2008 getting people into homes they couldn't afford. I wouldn't take their word for anything. My wife works in banking, she sees people approved for homes they can barely hang on too all the time, while the broker encourages them to make the deal of a life time.

Ok, so let's say 1300 goes to rent and utilities.

1100 is left for food, transport, health insurance, pension etc.

After expenses, they have maybe 400-500 left to spend or save?

TPTB get everyone arguing about minimum wage

The problem isn't minimum wage... its maximum wage

Everyone is focused on the wrong end of the spectrum

No one man should ever have (or need for that matter) 3% of an entire country's wealth

ex:
"Already Europe’s richest person, Arnault is now the continent’s first centibillionaire. His fortune, analysts say, now equals more than 3% of France’s economy."

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/06/19/bernard-arnault-becomes-the-3rd-person-worth-over-100-billion.html

TPTB have everyone fighting over the table scraps that fell on the floor meanwhile they are devouring all the food on the table

Exactly how they want to control you.. keep you focused on the wrong end of the spectrum

What age are you retiring?  Are you going to live the same lifestyle once you're retired?

You said you live in expensive Toronto because that is where the work is, will you continue to live there once retired?

What is the income tax rate in Canada?  What percentage of income are you saving?

The problem isn't minimum mass... its maximum mass

Everyone is focused on the wrong end of the spectrum

No one man should ever have (or need for that matter) 3% of an entire country's muscle mass.

you are out to lunch. please tell us how a person can survive off that in Vancouver or Toronto? good luck. let me guess,  you're answer is move to buttfuckville, ride a bike, eat toast all day, dont buy a coffee, actually dont buy a thing because no matter what it is people like you call it a luxury. Dont have kids. you're basically saying dont have a decent life till you're almost dead.

I can count on one hand 15 dollar an hour jobs that pay ANY benefits that are worth fuck all, nevermind the rest which are zero. Go fix a tooth with no benefits. There goes half a weeks pay. need braces, 10 grand right there.

save for retirement? lol how many years do you have to work to save for a decent retirement with a 15 dollar an hour wage? and what kind of retirement will that be.

what I was saying two ppl who make $15 an hour could live an OK "American life" in middle america - San Antonio Texas, St Louis, Tuscon, Decatur Ga  - of course they cannot live in on an expensive city on the coast.

$150k $200k a year is middle class income in NYC or SF!!!

a couple making $60k a year is middle class income in a Springfield, IL and someone can survive on that just fine.

the main point of my rant is this... those who make min wage generally are stuck in the minimum wage mindset, make poor financial decisions all around and increasing min wage is not going to do much to improve these ppl's lives since they will continue to make poor financial decisions if they make $12 an hour, $15 an hour, or $18 an hour..

being good with money is all will power and making good decisions.  (both saving money and making more money)

THE problem in the USA in one chart

NOTHING to friggin' do with minimum wage $8 vs $15 vs whatever the fck
