Zoom
« on: April 27, 2020, 05:16:56 PM »
-Just experienced my first Zoom meeting as a delegate with the Oregon N.W. Labor Council. Interesting experience. About 75 people participated in the hour long meeting. It was way better than the conference call meetings I've participated in. This may become the way many business meetings will be conducted even after the COVID-19 quarantine is over.

If you've not already participated in or conducted a Zoom meeting, try it. It works for both business and personal meetings.

zoom is not secure

Which means what? Don't Zoom when it's an illegal activity or give out personal information while on Zoom? Nothing is secure these days. Always assume whatever you say or do, particularly on the Internet is not secure. I also use What's App to communicate with family and friends. Like Zoom, it is an excellent way to stay connected. Skype is another means of doing this, although I suspect there is a lot of pornographic activity on Skype.

It probably isn't a good idea if you're part of a fringe or subversive group to hold meetings via Zoom. I don't recommend members of the KKK hold Zoom meetings.

I’d like to have a zoom session with getbiggers and talk about many different areas of life.

Do you think it would be well attended? If you don't want others to see you, you can turn off the video or use a photo instead. If you don't want to speak, you can mute your mike. If you do those things, you may as well not Zoom.

With what I suspect is a large number of Getbiggers who hide behind their keyboards and who are nothing like the person they present themselves to be, Zoom or any other social media tool requiring visual and verbal presence would be a bust here.

Wouldn't know. But being this was a meeting of the N.W. Labor Council, which is essentially a group of blue collar labor unions, quite a few of us are democrats.

How's this any different then other Internet social media? The meeting I just participated in had none of what you are talking about. If that's what you want, you will look for it and find it.

Exactly.

That this discussion has taken this direction so quickly says a great deal about some folks on Getbig.

I’ve used Zoom for a couple years now to meet with members of my team. It’s free up to 45 minutes but they cut off EXACTLY at 45 - the paid version is better if you have longer meetings.

We went an hour. Not sure who or which union would have paid for it. The N.W. labor Council does receive dues from the unions which is a percentage based on the number of union members. Guess it is possible the Board paid.

You're miss the point. You could be having a private group chat with your family and someone  uninvited can still find a way to join it.

That's  what's been happening with the examples I gave you.

I am sure they had the paid version - unless Zoom has done something different during COVID. I haven’t used the free version in a while so my info may be wrong. I just remember when we first tried it we would in the middle of a meet and at 45 on the button it was over.

You are probably right. I just checked the email announcement and the meeting was scheduled for 1:30 and only went an hour.

There is a followup meeting being scheduled for the very near future to discuss local candidate endorsements. Oregon's primary, which is a mail in vote, is on May 19th. The ballots haven't gone out yet but the voters pamphlet has.

I chair the board for a non-profit. We met a week ago via conference call to discuss endorsements. Pretty sure contributions have already gone out. Because of the pandemic, candidate campaigning is all messed up. Ballot measures have been pushed back to a future date, perhaps a special election. Primaries all across the country may not bring out voters in great numbers.

Is the Oregon N.W. Labor Council related to the Portland Bunghole Society?

Been using Zoom for a couple of years and use it now to train my football team almost everyday. About 6 months ago we added Lifelock security to our computers
