Gavin Newsom’s administration announced Thursday, a stunning reversal for a state that had a $21 billion surplus a year ago. After recording record low unemployment of 3.9% at the start of the year, the Newsom administration now predicts a jobless rate of 18% for the nation’s most populous state — 46% higher than the height of the Great Recession a decade ago.

The Newsom administration estimates state general fund revenues will decline by $41.2 billion compared to the $222.2 billion spending proposal Newsom revealed in January. Plus, California must pay for an extra $7.1 billion for increased enrollment in some social safety net programs, including Medicaid, the joint state and federal health insurance program for the poor and disabled. Another $6 billion in anticipated emergency spending on the coronavirus for things like protective gear, hotel rooms for the homeless and cash payments for low-income adults living in the country illegally pushes the projected deficit past $50 billion. Meanwhile, lawmakers are already being asked to bail out the state’s essential industries. California hospitals say they have lost up to $14 billion by postponing elective surgeries and other procedures to make room for an anticipated surge of coronavirus cases that never happened

Freedom and Liberty are words often and easily spoken, but their true meaning and weight is carried from the deepest essence of our humanity. From the Civil War to WWII, 1,264,000 American soldiers died to protect these words. Many millions more have fought to preserve their freedom and liberty. Today we live in a society where questioning the government or disputing a scientific idea is reacted to with aggression and dealt with oppression. Copernicus once questioned the scientific community of his time by proposing that the earth orbited the sun. Giordano Bruno was burned by holding the same beliefs and questioning the experts at the time. It took Galileo a hundred years to convince the experts that Copernicus’ ideas could be right.

Scientific achievement is conquered by questioning the status quo and being inquisitive, not by conformity and acceptance. We continue to make the same mistakes by vilifying those that inquire, those the don’t accept the norms, those that fight for our freedom and liberty. Many man and women died so we could have our freedom to live and think. Tragically, we forget that historically, as a result of our fear, we’ve given up our security.

Our governor just extended the lockdown on travel. Because of this one action, this one more extension, more businesses are shutting down for good. They are on the news. I so sympathize with them. They said they did everything that was asked of them, hanging on by a thread and the dates keep moving further each time. But they saw light at the end of the tunnel. If they could just hold on a little bit longer... but at some point, it was just too much. It wasn't sustainable. A business, a life, that they worked so, so hard to build just crushed by another executive order. More lives destroyed by a stroke of a pen by one man who suffers none of the consequences and whose life wasn't affected in the least bit. He still has his steady income flowing in and paid for by the very people whose lives he destroyed.

This so, so fucked. And they wonder why people at some point want to just take to the streets and destroy everything. It's so, so infuriating and maddening. And we have to just take it. They showed this lady closing up shop in Haleiwa that was started by her grandparents and supported their family for generations: putting food on the table, a roof over their heads, paying for college for their children -- all gone forever. Governor Ige just had to have that extra few weeks of shut down.

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine that lives in Venice Beach. He said that California is becoming unbearable thanks to Newsom and the various mayors.

Particularly, he said the streets are changing. The old timers have mostly moved out and the homelessness has become overwhelming. Overall, his perspective is that the face of his city has drastically been changed and will likely not be restored given that the people who made up the spirit of the town have moved out.

Never mind the lawsuit a week ago from 50+ places saying his logic is not based on scientific evidence. Never mind that he refuses to give the Covid data to people because we are too stupid to understand it.

Bottom line, this guy (and his cronies in Los Angeles) have ruined hundreds of thousands of jobs, small businesses and also let, on his reign, an incredible $8 BILLION dollar *yes, EIGHT BILLION DOLLAR) unemployment fraud scheme on his watch in 2020.  Not to mention, buying a BILLION dollars worth of masks from China (really?).

No, violence is never the answer.  He needs to be exposed for his corrupt dealings, and his politic motives behind hurting so many people and small businesses and restaurants over illogical whims. He needs to be reminded that he failed California, and Los Angeles and the counties around us in his crazy 'lockdown' that not only did not work in November-December, but it accelerated Covid by making people be together in one household (he forgets that just because he lives in a 9 acre estate in a mansion, most people in Los Angeles County live in apartments and smaller houses.  These lawsuits must go on until he stops hiding and not giving out public data, and hiding behind secrets deals.  Sadly, since California is a liberal 70% Democrat state, he and his cronies can get away with it here.

If it was opposite, and their was a Republican governor at the helm, people would be protesting all over and going crazy.
