Mary Wilson, longest-reigning original Supreme, dies at 76

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mary Wilson, one of the original members of the Supremes, the 1960s group that helped establish the Motown sound and propelled Diana Ross to superstardom, has died. She was 76.

Wilson died Monday night at her home in Nevada and the cause was not immediately clear, said publicist Jay Schwartz.

Wilson, Diana Ross and Florence Ballard made up the first successful configuration of The Supremes, Motown's first and most commercially successful girl group. Ballard was replaced by Cindy Birdsong in 1967, and Wilson stayed with the group until it was officially disbanded in 1977.

The group's first No. 1, million-selling song, "Where Did Our Love Go," was released June 17, 1964. Touring at the time, Wilson said there was a moment when she realized they had a hit song.

"I remember that instead of going home on the bus, we flew," she told The Associated Press in 2014. "That was our first plane ride. We flew home. We had really hit big."

It would be the first of five consecutive No. 1s, with "Baby Love," "Come See About Me," "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Back in My Arms Again" following in quick succession. The Supremes also recorded the hit songs "You Can't Hurry Love," "Up the Ladder to the Roof" and "Love Child."

"I just woke up to this news," Ross tweeted on Tuesday, offering her condolences to Wilson's family. "I am reminded that each day is a gift," she added, writing "I have so many wonderful memories of our time together."

Berry Gordy, who founded the Detroit-based Motown Records, said he was "extremely shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of a major member of the Motown family, Mary Wilson of the Supremes." His statement Monday night, according to Variety, said "The Supremes were always known as the 'sweethearts of Motown.'"

Wilson, Ross and Ballard were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

"The world has lost one of the brightest stars in our Motown family. Mary Wilson was an icon," Motown Museum Chairwoman and CEO Robin Terry said in a statement.

Wilson, in a recent YouTube video posted Saturday, said she was excited to celebrate Black history month, her upcoming birthday (March 6) and teased fans with the announcement that Universal Music had plans to release some of her music.

"We're going to be talking about the Supremes, yeah, 60th anniversary, and I'm going to be talking a lot about that mainly because I've finally decided how to work with Universal and they're going to release new recordings, Mary Wilson recordings," she said. "Yes! At last!"

"Hopefully some of that will be out on my birthday," she continued. "We'll see. I've got my fingers crossed here. Yes I do."

Several celebrities mourned Wilson's death on social media, including Viola Davis, Questlove, Andy Cohen, Janet Mock, Ledisi, Richard Marx and Kiss' Paul Stanley, who said he was in touch with Wilson last week.

"OMG! Mary Wilson of the Supremes has died suddenly. I was just on a Zoom call with her Wednesday for about an hour & never could have imagined this," he tweeted Tuesday. "So full of life & great stories. Absolutely shocked. Rest In Supreme Peace Mary."

Steven Van Zandt said he spoke to Wilson before the world went on lockdown because of the coronavirus, tweeting Tuesday: "RIP Mary Wilson. Legendary founding member of the Supremes and fantastic solo artist. I had a wonderful conversation with her just before the quarantine. She was full of energy and plans so this is shocking as well as tragic. Our love and condolences go to her family and friends."

Following the Supremes' disbandment, Wilson released the New York Times best-selling book, "Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme," in 1986. She released her second book, "Supreme Faith: Someday We'll Be Together," in 1990. Her last book, "Supreme Glamour," was written with Mark Bego and was released in 2019.

Wilson also competed on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" in 2019.

Lynda Carter is now a widow.  :(

One week ago, my beloved husband Robert A. Altman passed away.
Robert is the love of my life and he always will be.

Our 37 years of marriage were an extraordinary gift. We shared the passion I hope everyone is lucky enough to experience in their lifetime. We protected each other and were each other’s champions always.

We have always been grateful for the two beautiful lives we created together: our children, Jessica and James. They are the lights of my life, and were the greatest joy of Robert’s. I see so much of Robert in them, and I know he lives on through them.

To all the fans who have shared their condolences:
Jessica, James, and I want to say thank you. We especially love hearing about the times you met Robert at concerts or through his work in the gaming world. He loved meeting you and hearing your stories.

To Robert:
You are the most honorable person that I have ever had the privilege to know.  And I got to be your wife and the mother of your children.  Thank you for giving me all the love in my life.

Nothing could prepare our family for this moment, but we will do our best to follow our dreams and honor the legacy you’ve left behind.  I will love you always and forever.

Hustler Founder Larry Flynt Dead at 78

Larry Flynt -- the famous and controversial publisher known for launching a porn empire -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

Family sources tell us the mogul passed Wednesday morning in Los Angeles from heart failure.

For nearly 50 years, Flynt's been one of the biggest names in the adult entertainment industry. He launched "Hustler" magazine in 1974, which brought him fame and fortune as it skyrocketed in popularity ... and also brought countless legal issues.

Many of these First Amendment battles were chronicled in the Oscar-nominated 1996 film, "The People vs. Larry Flynt," starring Woody Harrelson.

Flynt's magazine and notoriety also led to him being shot in 1978 in a murder attempt by serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin. The shooting left Larry paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair, and he suffered from constant pain and other medical issues as a result.

Along with being the name behind the Hustler brand, Flynt's the president of Larry Flynt Publications ... which produces other magazines like "Barely Legal," pornographic videos and Hustler TV.

He also opened the famous Hustler Casino near L.A. in 2000.

Flynt dabbled in politics, controversially of course, by attempting a brief presidential run in 1984 and running for Governor of California in the 2003 recall election. He also weighed in during Bill Clinton's impeachment trial by offering $1 million for evidence of sexual transgressions to publish his "The Flynt Report."

As for his personal life ... Flynt was married 5 times. He married his current wife, Elizabeth Berrios, in 1998. He has 5 daughters and a son, along with many grandchildren and great-grandkids.

Larry was 78.

RIP

Re: Flynt -

His biography, "An Unseemly Man" was a very good read. It went into the stuff the movie touched on far more indepth, and wasn't just a puff piece.

Allan MacDonell's "A Prisoner of X" was another good read about Hustler, as he was an editor there for 20 years or so, and goes into how the mag ran, and some of the behind the scenes stuff of dealing with porn girls, etc....

I haven't thought about or bought a porn mag in 20+ years, but I still get a big laugh out of most of the Hustler Cartoons I run across. One of the best parts of the whole mag.

Chick Corea, Jazz Pianist Who Expanded the Possibilities of the Genre, Dead at 79

Chick Corea, the virtuosic keyboardist who broadened the scope of jazz during a career spanning more than five decades, died on Tuesday from a rare form of cancer. A post on his Facebook page confirmed the news. Corea was 79.

“Throughout his life and career, Chick relished in the freedom and the fun to be had in creating something new, and in playing the games that artists do,” his family wrote in a statement. “Through his body of work and the decades he spent touring the world, he touched and inspired the lives of millions.”

“Chick Corea was the single greatest improvisational musician I have ever played with,” John Mayer, who had appeared with Corea onstage, wrote on Instagram. “Nobody was more open, more finely tuned to the moment, changing his approach with every new offering by the musicians around him. If you hit a wrong note, he’d immediately pick it up and play it as a motif so as to say ‘all of this has value, whether you see it or not.’ What an immeasurable loss in so many ways.”

Alex Trebek's Last Great 'Jeopardy!' Champ, Brayden Smith, Dead at 24

Alex Trebek's last great "Jeopardy!" champion has died at the young age of only 24.

Brayden Smith, who scored a 5-game winning streak and more than $115,000 in winnings as Trebek's era came to a close, died unexpectedly last Friday in his hometown of Las Vegas. The cause of death is unclear.

Brayden's lifelong dream had always been to appear on "Jeopardy!" ... and the young man, who had reportedly tried getting on the show at least a dozen times, left a lasting impression on Trebek and fans alike.

His run was so impressive he drew comparisons to the great James Holzhauer because he also had a knack for finding the Daily Doubles and laying huge wagers when he did.

Trebek was very much impressed with Brayden's prolific run ... dubbing him "Billy Buzzsaw" for his ability to dismantle the competition. Trebek also uttered "Most impressive. I don't know what to say." Brayden, of course, appeared in the final shows Trebek ever hosted before he died from pancreatic cancer.

Brayden, who died about a month after his episode aired, had been looking forward to competing in the show's Tournament of Champions. He had just graduated from UNLV last year with a degree in economics and had hoped to attend law school and become a U.S. Attorney.

The family's asked that donations be made in Brayden's name here ... a fund benefiting Nevada students furthering their education.

RIP, champ.

Model Rebecca Landrith Found Dead on Side of the Road in Pennsylvania After Being Shot Multiple Times

A former model was found dead in western Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Rebecca Landrith, 47, was discovered by a PennDot worker early Sunday morning in Union County on the side of an Interstate 80 ramp, authorities said, PhillyVoice reported Wednesday.

Landrith, originally from Virginia, had gunshot wounds to her head, neck, throat, chest and hand, Union County Coroner Dominick Adamo said in a statement to the outlet. The coroner ruled her death as a homicide.

Adamo did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

When she was found, Landrith did not have identification on her, but investigators were able to identify her using fingerprints on some receipts she had with her when she died. Landrith is believed to have recently traveled through Indiana and Wisconsin, based on the receipts.

On Wednesday, a man was arrested in connection to Landrith's death, Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers said. Pennsylvania State Police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Tracy Rollins — whose name had been found on a note in Landrith's pocket — was arrested in Connecticut and charged with criminal homicide and abuse of corpse, PhillyVoice reported Thursday.

Rollins, a 28-year-old truck driver, was allegedly linked to the locations that had appeared on Landrith's receipts by surveillance video and cell phone data obtained by police, a criminal complaint obtained by the outlet said.

Police allegedly found blood and shell casings in Rollins' truck, and noted that bleach and cleaning solution had recently been used in his vehicle, PhillyVoice reported.

Connecticut State Police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. It was not clear if Rollins has legal representation or has entered a plea at this time.

Landrith was a finalist in the 2014 Miss Manhattan contest and America's It Girl Miss Lady Liberty.

"I adore fashion and the industry and am a warm weather person with a warm heart," the model said in a bio on an iStudio page. "I have worked with some really great photographers and fantastic people in this industry."

In addition to modeling, Landrith was also an "accomplished violinist," her bio said.

Landrith's brother, George Landrith, told PennLive that his younger sister had been estranged from the family for about five years.

Robert Maraj was 64 at the time of his death.

Nicki Minaj's Father, Robert Maraj, Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident

Nicki Minaj's father, Robert Maraj, has died after being struck in a hit-and-run accident ... TMZ has learned.

Nassau County Police in New York say he was walking on the road between Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue Friday evening around 6 PM ET, when he was hit by a vehicle heading northbound. Cops say the driver then fled the scene without a meaningful description from witnesses.

Robert was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed over the weekend. The Homicide Squad is investigating the case and asking for the public's help in identifying the responsible party.

Nicki hasn't spoken on her dad's death yet. There are shots of them together embracing, so they obviously had a decent relationship ... but we know their history has been rocky over the years, as NM herself has well noted. It's unclear what Nicki's relationship with her dad was currently.

We've reached out to Nicki's reps to see if she had any comment ... so far, no word back.

Robert appeared to be just 64.

NFL Star Vincent Jackson Found Dead in Hotel Room, Cops Investigating

Vincent Jackson -- a 3-time Pro Bowl wide receiver -- was found dead in a hotel room in Florida on Monday, officials confirm. He was only 38.

The former San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Bucs star was discovered by a housekeeper inside his room at the Homewood Suites hotel in Brandon, Florida (located in the Tampa area). Cops have released pics from the scene.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says it's investigating -- as there is no apparent cause of death. No signs of trauma, etc.

Jackson had been staying at the hotel since January 11 -- though it's unclear why he was living there considering he made a fortune during his 12 years as an NFL player.

Officials say Jackson's family filed a missing persons report regarding the NFL star on February 11. He was located on Feb. 12 and cops spoke with him.

"After assessing Jackson’s well-being, the missing persons case was canceled," officials say.

He was found dead in his hotel room days later.

Sheriff Chad Chronister issued a statement saying, "My heart aches for the many loved ones Vincent Jackson leaves behind, from his wife and children to the Buccaneers nation that adored him."

"Mr. Jackson was a devoted man who put his family and community above everything else."

Jackson worked closely with the Sheriff's Dept and was even made an honorary deputy.

"He will be sorely missed by not only football fans across the country, but also the people here in Hillsborough County who reaped the benefits of his generous contributions."

Jackson was a star athlete in both football and basketball at the University of Northern Colorado before going 61st overall to the San Diego Chargers in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Jackson played for the Chargers from 2005 to 2011, making the Pro Bowl twice.

He spent the latter part of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, earning a 3rd Pro Bowl spot in 2012.

The WR finally retired from the game in 2016. Jackson earned 540 receptions, 57 TDs and more than 9,000 receiving yards during his 12 seasons in the league ... and reportedly made more than $71 million in contract money during his NFL run.

Tributes are already starting to pour in ... his ex-Chargers teammate Shawne Merriman tweeted, "Man, no way. Praying for Vincent Jackson’s family. Dude was 3 years younger than me. Rest In Peace brother."

His alma mater also posted a tribute ...

.

This article has more on the story, he wasn't a good cleaner. There were bits of bone, flesh, brain, and blood all through the bunk of the truck -

So she was hitch-hiking, he picked her up, shot her to death in the cab, fvcked the corpse and thought bleach would do the trick... but left the shell casings in the cab... and there were bullet strikes too...

When asked questions pertaining to his travels, Rollins replied: “I hate to start lying to you cause this is a murder investigation.”
At that point Rollins had not been advised or presented any information that this was a murder investigation.

IQ of a (murderous) potato...  Another incel virgin frustrated by his complete failure at life - should have used the gun on himself

I am so pro death penalty for cases like this... in the UK he'd get 'life' and be out in 17 years...

PrimePedo hasn’t posted in a few days.

I’m hoping and praying that that rancid old senile pedo fuckstick is dead.

I want to be the one who gets to add his disgusting, perverted, moronic carcass to the Deadpool List.

Come on Grim Reaper, you can do it, I’m pulling for you!

He looked dead 30 years ago.

When Larry found out his latest wife was cheating on him with his kids baseball coach, Larry told the coach "you think she's hot, you should see her younger sister."  8)

Larry King's Widow Shawn Contests His Handwritten Will

The battle over Larry King's estate is getting nasty ... his widow's contesting his handwritten will, which left everything to his kids and nothing to her.

Larry's seventh wife, Shawn Southwick King, claims in new legal docs ... the late talk show host was no longer pushing their divorce case and reconciliation was possible before he died.

In the docs, obtained by TMZ, Shawn claims Larry's handwritten will does not change her position as executor under his 2015 will, and also violates 2 post-nuptial agreements between Larry and her regarding his ability to give gifts to his children. So, in her book the new will has no legal effect.

As we first told you ... Larry scribbled his most recent will on October 17, 2019, about 2 months after filing for divorce from Shawn, saying he wanted his funds equally divided among his children.

According to the docs, Shawn claims Larry suffered a stroke around the time he hand-wrote his latest will, and she's arguing he had "questionable mental capacity" at the time.

One of Larry's surviving sons, Larry King Jr., has filed docs asking to be appointed a special administrator of the estate, noting his father was in the middle of divorce proceedings when he died ... but Shawn claims Larry didn't even know about Jr. until his son was well into his 30s.

In the docs, Shawn also claims Larry Jr. received improper gifts from his father's secret account, so he can't be the one to administer the estate ... and besides, she says she's the one with the most knowledge about Larry's businesses, assets and wishes.

As we reported, Shawn was butting heads with Larry's children right around the time he filed for divorce.

According to documents, Larry's estate is worth about $2 million, but a lot more is likely held in separate trusts.

Shawn wants the judge to deny Larry Jr.'s request to admit the handwritten will and deny his request to become special administrator of the estate.
