Dems tell Biden to drill

...which means it's getting pretty bad out there. Joe isn't listening.

President Biden was in Texas on Tuesday. His visit was so short that they didn't turn off the engines on Air Force One.

It was a strange visit because Beto O'Rourke, the Democrat running for governor, did not get an invitation, or did not respond to it.

Who knows? Beto can’t stop talking about the lights going out 13 months ago.

We do know that a few Democrats want more oil production, according to a letter posted on Fox News:

A group of Texas Democrats Tuesday called on President Biden to do more to unleash domestic energy production in the United States in the face of rising gas prices and reliance on foreign countries for energy.

Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, led a group of Texas Democrats in a letter to Biden Tuesday applauding his announcement to ban Russian oil imports while urging him to enact clear policies to help domestic energy producers boost energy output for the U.S. and beyond.

Drill baby drill or something like that.

My guess is that these Democrats are not alone on this. Every Democrat and Republican must be bombarded by angry constituents paying over $4 a gallon at the pump. One of these Democrats, Rep. Henry Cuellar, is in a tough runoff against Jessica Cisneros, a Texas version of the Squad. I'm sure that Mr. Cuellar will call for more drilling and Miss Cisneros will call for more green energy. It will be fun to watch which message moves the district.

On Tuesday, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland told the Senate that the US is working with Ukraine to protect biological research labs as Russia continues its attacks on the Eastern European nation.

"Ukraine has biological research facilities, which in fact we are now quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of, so we are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach," Nuland told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a hearing.

The response came in regards to a question from Senator Marco Rubio, who asked: "Does Ukraine have chemical or biological weapons?" Following Nuland's response, Rubio continued on to ask whether she would have any doubt that the Russians would be behind any potential biological or chemical attacks. "I’m sure you're aware that the Russian propaganda, two groups already putting out there all kinds of information about how they've uncovered a plot by the Ukrainians to release biological weapons in the country and with NATO's coordination. If there's a biological or chemical weapon incident or or attack inside of Ukraine, is there any doubt in your mind that 100 percent it would be the Russians that would be behind it?" Rubio asked.

"There is no doubt in my mind, Senator, and it is classic Russian technique to blame on the other guy what they're planning to do themselves," Nuland responded.

Chasten Buttigieg spoke out yesterday in a tweet against an anti-grooming Florida bill that would ban public school districts from teaching about sexual orientation or gender identity in K-3rd grade.

Joe Biden looks for oil everywhere *except* his oil-rich northern neighbour

Amid historically high gas prices and a new embargo on Russian oil imports, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is now roaming the globe to glad-hand whatever autocratic government might be willing to sell them more oil.

Naturally, this whole spectacle is proving maddening to the giant, friendly, democratic petrostate that literally shares a 9,000 km border with the United States. Alberta Premier Jason Kenney was at a Houston oil conference this week, where he was directly making the pitch to Americans to buy Canadian and steer clear of what he called “conflict oil.”

Canada already supplies 51 per cent of the foreign oil purchased by the United States, and sources within the Canadian energy sector are estimating that we could be “immediately” sending the Americans an extra 400,000 barrels per day by rail or through existing pipelines.

We could be sending them even more, but the problem is transportation: There just aren’t enough conduits between U.S. refineries and the landlocked parts of Northern Alberta which produce the oil. So it’s somewhat ironic that one of the first actions of Biden Administration was to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline, which could conceivably have pumped enough Canadian crude into the U.S. market to replace lost stocks of Russian oil.

And it’s not like Biden can simply reverse the cancellation. TC Energy, the pipeline’s builders, lost so much money on Keystone XL that they’re now refusing offers to revive it. As oil analyst Michael Tran told the Financial Post this week, “we squandered the opportunity to make major strides to become closer to North American energy independence or North American energy sufficiency.”

Inflation grew worse in February amid the escalating crisis in Ukraine and price pressures that became more entrenched.

The consumer price index, which measures a wide-ranging basket of goods and services, increased 7.9% over the past 12 months, a fresh 40-year high for the closely followed gauge.

The February acceleration was the fastest pace since January1982, back when the U.S. economy confronted the twin threat of higher inflation and reduced economic growth.

On a month-over-month basis, the CPI gain was 0.8%. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected headline inflation to increase 7.8% for the year and 0.7% for the month.

Food prices rose 1% and food at home jumped 1.4%, both the fastest monthly gains since April 2020, in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Energy also was at the forefront of ballooning prices, up 3.5% for February and accounting for about one-third of the headline gain. Shelter costs, which account for about one-third of the CPI weighting, accelerated another 0.5%, for a 12-month gain of 4.7%.

Big Three Ignore Report Showing 64% of Americans Living Paycheck to Paycheck for 5 Days

The ABC, CBS and NBC evening news shows buried a report showing that most Americans currently live paycheck to paycheck as the cost of living continues to skyrocket.

Fintech marketplace bank LendingClub released a report March 3, which stated that “[t]he number of consumers living paycheck to paycheck has increased steadily since April 2021 and was 64% in January 2022 – 12 percentage points higher than April 2021.” It got worse: “The data show[] that 48% of consumers earning more than $100,000 per year reported living paycheck to paycheck in January 2022 — up from 42% in December 2021.”

Of course, such news could be politically disastrous for President Joe Biden’s administration, so ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News ignored the story altogether during their March 3, March 4, March 7, March 8 and March 9 broadcasts.

(John Ransom, Headline USA) If it wasn’t a sad enough spectacle seeing President Joe Biden kowtow to communist China over the COVID virus, now Biden has overdrawn the humiliation card by pleading with the dictator in Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, a Russian ally, to please sell the US some of the oil, for which Biden won’t let American producers drill for domestic use.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., ridiculed the Biden administration for another humiliating defeat to a dictator regime, the only type with which Biden and the Democrats seem to like dealing, reported Fox News.

“#Biden secret talks with #MaduroRegime isn’t about replacing #Russia’s oil,” said Rubio via Twitter. “#Venezuela’s oil industry is an incompetent mess that produces 10% of what Russia exports. Ukraine is just an excuse for pro-leftist former Obama staffers who already wanted to get close to Maduro & Cuba.”

Geoff Ramsey, Venezuela director at the Washington Office on Latin America, told the Washington Post that Rubio is on to something, that Biden is looking for a quid pro quo, not for more oil.

“It’s very unlikely that senior Biden officials would go to Caracas and meet with Maduro and be able to sell a major policy shift like this if they were to come home empty-handed,” Ramsey said, according to the Washington Post.

Last week Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, introduced a measure in the Senate to reinstate US energy independence, which has been decimated under Biden, even accounting for a downturn in oil demand because of COVID.

“President Biden has imposed more restrictions on U.S. oil companies than he has on Russian oil,” Cruz said, according to Fox News…

Keystone XL developer says it's too late to restart pipeline project

The monumental decision to walk away from the $8 billion project came at a devastating cost to communities that pinned their hopes and investments on the success of the massive venture.

South Dakota hotel owner Laurie Cox, who bought a two-story hotel in Midland and housed pipeline workers before the project was pulled, said that although it's exciting to think about the pipeline coming back, it's hard not to see the writing on the wall.

She recently drove past some of the man camps built to accommodate thousands of skilled workers hired to build the pipeline. The mostly abandoned work sites left little hope of a comeback.

"The man camp outside of Philip still has a few trailers, but it's as dead as dead could be," she said. "The pod stations appear to be abandoned. There's nothing there."

Cox said employees of Precision Pipeline came in September and removed heavy equipment from one of the sites, including all of the trailers.

Others, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the sale, told the Washington Examiner parts were sold for 30% less than the asking price.

If Keystone XL were to restart, it would mean rehiring workers, buying back pricey equipment, setting up housing, dealing with environmentalists opposed to the drilling, and getting small businesses burned by Biden's decision to agree to reinvest in virtual ghost towns.

Even if all of the obstacles were removed, it's unlikely XL would do anything to ease the sticker shock many drivers currently see at the pumps.

Americans are not buying the 'Vlad did it' story regarding inflation

President Biden got a double-bit of bad news.

First, Rasmussen reported that he is at 39% job approval.  So much for the SOTU bounce or whatever else was supposed to turn things around.

Second, Americans are not falling for the "Vlad did it" story.  This is from Fox News:

Americans feeling the price at the pump told FoxNews that President Biden's claim that he "can't do much" about soaring gas prices does not add up.

"That's a bunch of bull," Chester from Kentucky said.

Lynn, of South Dakota, told Fox : "There has to be reserves here in the states, that they can release."

During a gaggle with reporters in Fort Worth, Texas, on Tuesday, President Biden was asked what he was going to do about rising gas prices.

"Can't do much right now. Russia is responsible," Biden replied.

Robert from Tampa disagreed with that assessment.

"No, it has been going for some time now," Robert told Fox News. "Like inflation, it's not something that happened in a couple of weeks."

Anne said she doesn't understand President Biden's decision to shut down the Keystone XL Pipeline.

"We have potential to take care of some of our own needs rather than go foreign," she added.

By the way, I won't tell you what they think of President Biden talking to Nicolás Maduro in Florida.  It won't help down there, which is why a lot of Democrats are balking at the idea.  You want the 200,000 or so Venezuelans pass their citizenship test and cast a vote for Senator Marco Rubio?  Keep talking about sitting down with Maduro.

In the meantime, I just paid $55 today to fill up our Nissan Altima.  I did not hear anyone at the gas station blaming Vlad.
