The first movie ever shot in Hollywood, DW Griffith's silent film In Old California was released on March 10 1910, exactly 105 years ago. It was a melodrama about the Mexican era in California, and starred such early celebrities as Marion Leonard and Henry B Walthall, who also appeared in Griffith's later film, The Birth of a Nation. Griffith continued to make films until 1931, and lived in Hollywood until his death in 1948, aged 73.

In 1910, the area where Hollywood now stands was notable only for its citrus groves and plentiful sunshine. By 1915, it was the centre of the American film business. Nora Beger of Los Angeles with the ten oranges she received as a gift from a California fruit grower, circa 1915

Fatty Arbuckle was a member of Mack Sennett's Keystone Kops. His Hollywood career was cut short by scandal when he was accused of raping and accidentally killing Virginia Rappe. Though he was acquitted, the scandal overshadowed his legacy.

Lillian Gish, known as the first lady of American cinema, starring in Griffiths's Birth of a Nation (1915), Duel in the Sun (1946) and Night of the Hunter (1955)

Canadian-born brothers Jack, Sam and Albert Warner founded the film studio in 1923.

The Hollywood sign originally said "Hollywoodland" when it was installed in 1923. The last four letters were deleted when the sign was refurbished in 1949.

Actually Those early pioneers in Hollywood were Robber Barons....the early actors and especially the producers/studios were making money hand over fist...the IRS and government didn't have an understanding of Hollywood because it was such a new industry.....the Government didn't know how to tax them......so they were making money basically tax free......and got tremendously rich in the process.....guys like Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd became fabulously rich

People Are Going Crazy Over the First Photos of Tonga's New Island

http://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/first-photos-of-tonga-s-new-island

It's not often Tonga gets in the news -- the country's most famous export is probably a pro wrestler who peaked in 1998 -- but when a volcanic eruption gives the Earth an entirely new island, well, you can't help but make headlines.

Not far from Tonga’s Tongatapu, the new island birthed in January stretches a good 2,600ft, and its first photos are just emerging on social media. Daring hotel owner Gianpiero Orbassano took a trip with his son to the never-before-seen island over the weekend and snapped a bunch of images. “Remember that time we took the first pictures of Tonga’s island?” is certainly a better story than "Remember when I caught a fish on our father-son camping trip?"

Just don't live with them, marry them or have kids with them... you'll be fine.

You mean like a gay person?
Probably the orientation of that driver. Nothing wrong with that, just to put that on a sticker is so stupid. Hope he gets pulled over by a female cop, would LOVE to see that...

No not like a gay person... like a straight male who understands that marriage (or having kids) is a legally binding financial contract.  The driver probably had his ass reamed in divorce court.

Gays who are married will eventually be dealing with he same thing... the wealthier one will be required to give the poorer one 50% of all his/her assets in divorce court.
