A pair of rare tree kangaroos has started a family at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra, Australia, with the arrival of little Mani. Goodfellow's tree kangaroos are rarely bred in captivity and the new joey is an important boost for an international conservation program. Tree kangaroos are critically endangered due to predators in far-north Queensland and illegal forestry in Papua New Guinea. Sterk the lion has become quite taken with ice hockey, since the recent drop in temperature turned the pond in his pen at a Canadian zoo into ice. The 18-month-old male has become the star attraction of Oaklawn Farm Zoo, Nova Scotia, after his keepers started challenging him to hockey games, despite his heavy weight cracking the surface.
