You're supporting the wrong side. Western Regimes are controlled by the Deep State with its anti-white agenda of replacing the white populations via mass flooding of formerly white nations with non-whites. You come from South Africa so you should realize this has been happening. Western regimes are also promoting homosexuality, gender neutrality, transgenderism, and perhaps even pedophilia in the future. Western nations are losing their moral compass. The West is Woke.
Western regimes are guilty of hypocrisy. They either supported or were complacent when the USA invaded sovereign Iraq. NATO also attacked Syria. The US aided Muslims in the Kosovo war. Some claim the US was responsible for the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Russia (alongside Sweden) was the largest supporter of 'liberation' movements in Africa, including South Africa and they still do support ZANU-PF in Zimbabwe and the ANC in South Africa.
They also provided officers, training and weapons and were often conducting offensives against the South African Defence Force in Angola using black and Cuban troops. They had a similar set-up in Mozambique as well. They also provided financial, training and weapons to insurgents against Rhodesia and were recommending and coordinating a conventional war offensive from Zambia which required cross-border Fire-Force strikes from Rhodesia in order to destroy these bases.
In South Africa, Russia supported and trained ANC and SA Communist Party operatives in Moscow, and their aim was to overthrow the state with wide-scale terrorism and mass protests in order to make the state ungovernable via a 'people's war' campaign. The aim was to create a satellite communist state which could have access to the raw materials and shipping ports.
In the current era, they still support the ANC in SA and tried to strong-arm the building of a Russian nuclear plant which would have financially wrecked the country. The plant would have been subpar compared to Western/European safety and technology standards. Only the ousting of the previous President prevented this and he reportedly even feared for his life and family safety if he refused the contract from the Russians.
So they were bad in the past and they're bad now.
The USA only introduced major sanctions when the Democrats gained a majority and were even providing some tacit support before that, despite some of the public rhetoric.
