Can you really do it in today’s world?

Assume you can access $750K+ cash can you disappear for good? Have seen some videos on YT about this but they’re all flawed. The way I see it you need to be able to get out of the US and then create an entirely new identity somewhere else that’s not traceable to you. I assume an anonymous offshore bank account is the way to start (not that I would know how to go about that) but then how do you get a new identity? Assume also that you’re not actively wanted by any law enforcement agencies when you skip out.

Whitey Bulger had $822,000 on him when he was finally caught in 2011, after being a fugitive for 16.5 years. So who knows what he had when he originally fled Boston - probably around $2 million.

And Whitey actually was wanted by the law - not just wanted, but on the FBI's Most Wanted List for 12 years, and was #1 on the list for about two months, after the death of Bin Laden. Bulger was only caught because they eventually started searching for his girlfriend Catherine Greig.

I still find Bulger'a story fascinating. Apparently, he was spotted at a theater in 2006 watching "The Departed", which was loosely based on his life story.

And to spend 14 of those 16.5 years in the same rent-controlled apartment, I find very impressive - Bulger simply wasn't your ordinary criminal.

So to answer your question, OlympiaGym - $750K would probably be enough to hide forever...assuming you are not wanted by the law. It would be a lot trickier to do that if wanted...but still presumably possible [if slightly more expensive].

My plan is to leave the US. I intend to live modestly but want to live somewhere with a much lower cost of living.

If you wire it there’s now a trail back to you that the authorities can eventually get to if they dig hard enough. This is harder than you might think.

Who are you hiding from? If it's some cunt ex-wife, it wouldn't be that hard. You're not going to hide from the state for long without the assistance of another state, though. But that's also assuming they have a reason to find you. Criminals who laid low for years had a network of people to rely on and pay for things like accommodation in their own names.

To really go off-grid, you'd be best flying to somewhere with a bunch of neighboring countries that you could reach by boat. Ditch your phone, passport, everything before getting on the boat. I've opened bank accounts abroad but always legitimately. I suppose if you had enough cash you could pay people to overlook certain procedures, but there's always going to be some sort of trail leading back to you.

Heading for some European shithole would be your best bet. Hook up with a lonely pig on Tinder, charm her for a few months, and wire her the money to sort things out, then ghost her after a month of you arriving, lol. Or, go full-on Hollywood movie and find some reclusive loser to kill and steal their ID.

Cannot be easy to drift off to some other nation with $750,000 cash and not end up being VERY CONSPICUOUS. If you keep it in the wall at home and then dribble it out to the various currency exchanges to turn it into local currency, people will start to wonder where all that US cash is coming from. You better have good locks on your house. If you put it in a local financial institution, are you sure the institutions in that country are safe? And are you opening yourself up to being identified somehow with your large balances and obvious American accent? I know I am risk adverse, but I would be a nervous wreck with all that going on.

That being said, my buddy here owns two bars in Ft Lauderdale.  He's been in the business for a while and he said that since 2019, people who are getting into the bar business have dropped off big time.  Because the entire business model has changed.  It used to mostly be a cash business like laundry mats, and a LOT of people were getting into it in order to laundry cash from other businesses and/or the likes.  Or to have access to cash they were not reporting.  Now days, about 80% of all sales are digital through credit cards, or people using their phone/watch to pay.  He said he went from making daily deposits of cash at the bank every single day, to now going to the bank twice a week to draw money out just so he can have it on hand to cover the tips for the bartenders that he pays every night.   

There is really no way to effectively move hundreds of thousands of cash money around without some trace.  My accountant, her mother and father both retired from the IRS, he as a prosecutor and her as a forensic accountant.  A lot of things that they have said that got people caught were blatantly obvious things that nobody ever took a minute to think about.

It looks like Hungary is a viable portal to a new life. You can set things up there and then move on without little paper trial. Talked to a guy who already did it. However, he married a Hungarian woman and had a kid with her so he wound up staying. They own a hotel now. Never been out of North America so this will be interesting.

The scrap lobby has made it so congress didn’t force the scrap yards to send W9’s for their pay outs. If you’re in the scrap business, you can deal in all cash.

Depending on your method of travel, it's not hard to disappear in South America.

The problem is what to do with your money.

Too much risk.

There are a lot of people who have disappeared in the far reaches of South America and SE Asia.

But they lived off the grid and provided for themselves. Cashless for the most part.

When i lived in Venezuela i met a retired doctor from Canada who had completely reset his life and lived off the grid in an obscure part of the forest.

Had money buried in random places.

Zero proof of his existence from what i could tell.

But that lifestyle would be so boring, unless you want to live in a hut in the middle of nowhere.

I figured he had a past to get away from, but he was an eccentric old man who hated humanity.

I've never been IDed in Mexico or parts of South America.

Unless it was at an airport or something.

I am assuming that, if you “disappear”, you would want to settle down in one place. Whether the currency exchanges ID you or not, you would still become very conspicuous in that community if you had lots of loose dollars to constantly change. If you maintain a bank account where you draw via ATM, your monetary life is fully tracked. Even with a new identity, it seems like this would present risks too. My advice: stay at home here in US.
