So I got some VR goggles
« on: June 05, 2023, 07:43:26 PM »
First time having worn a set.

TLdR
*Quest 2 because I don’t need anything crazy yet.
*train your brain for VR to overcome motion sickness
*immersion is pretty surreal
*social setting is the first big thing to hit us and change how we live

You have to train your brain for VR. This means baby steps. Start with standing still and looking around. Then do slow walking around. Then speed up things and extend the time period. The instant you begin to feel sick, stop and walk away (otherwise you train your brain to be sick).

I tried a team death match first person shooter. Was pretty awesome. Aiming is a bit weird. When throwing a grenade your brain tells you to throw the remote lol. I ended up dropping a flash bang at my feet as a result of mong throwing lol 😂

I want it for sim racing. Did dirt rally 2.0 and it’s freaky as hell. Nothing like using a screen. Feels like a totally different experience and I found I drove it more like I would a real life car, not a game. Motion sickness kicked in even at a slow cruise pace.

Even in the steam vr app looking around it’s a nice view. This is the type of thing that is coming for us in 3yrs. sure it’s 1st Gen graphics but even so it looks better than 95% of people’s homes.

Anyhoo while it’s popular to shit on Meta, I really like the stand alone VR platform. I can boot up and play decent VR without needing a $6,000 PC.

I've seen people try a VR boxing game which looked like a lot of fun. I'd like to give it a go.

Vader Immortal trilogy was fun.

I saw that in the App Store, I’ll have to give it a try.

I have Pavlov which I need to test out tonight.

Ha, i find the looking around feature qjote good fun but anuthing else like picking up objects or flicking switches is nothing like the real thing.
It's a gimmick and the fun soon wears off.

Cool part of Oculus is you can stream what the user is seeing to your phone, and then to a TV.  I watched my family when they got to the climbing part - it's scary as fuck.  Wife said "oh, fuck this" and took off the headset.

VR... Interesting stuff! But so many options!

One day at Best Buy  with a VR headset on my head .... I found  myself in a long hallway of an old museum while a dinosaur walked towards me and stepped over my head as I turned around and watched him walk away.

I actually ducked down a bit as he walked over me, but then the 'app' got me placed on a small board hanging out of a window on the 50th floor of a tall building and I found myself doing my best to prevent from falling while experience that feeling you usually get while hanging over the edge of Half Dome while someone held your feet.

So I bought the headset ($300 ???) but it's still packed away yet to be used.

But I'm still interested in VR and now Apple will be selling their own VR headset early next year starting at $3,500 which I plan to check-out when it becomes available.

Ant advice from you VR experts would be appreciated.

PS.... One of the nephews has a "hapt-suit" ..... whatever the hell that is, but keeps telling are that it's the next big thing for  computer game fans.

First bit of advice - actually use the thing.

Second - Hapt suit is a outfit that provides haptic feedback - meaning if you got "punched" in the gut, you'd feel a pulse or something...Watch the movie Ready Player One to see (or read the book which was awesome).

go and put it straight in the dustbin
At your age you will end up sending yourself around the bend and start walking the streets naked like someone on bath salts because you still believe you are at home with the headset on.

Yes, I remember  standing there with my eyes closed, imagining I was walking on the edge of a cliff or shooting zombies, or flying an x-wing.

It was hours of fun.   ::) ::) ::) ::)

After reading a couple of Apple Vision Pro revues. I'll probably be one of the first GetBiggers on this board to get one when it first comes out next year.

$3,500 is damn expensive but I get a military discount.

BUT ... it will most likely end up on the top shelf of the hallway closet along with some of the old, original, unused Apple products including a couple of old Apple phones, original ear-plug things, an Iwatch, numerous wires and cables  which are now a mystery to me, and even the original, big box, Apple computer with the line drawn happy face.

Plus an Oculus.

I'm a sucker when Apple's new tech stuff comes out and ...... I have no idea how that Oculus came about.  (Must have been a gift of some sorts.)

Joswift, I've done crazier stuff than that way before the creation of VR goggles.

Can't blame anything other than my own stupidity.

Now you getbiggers can wear your VR and get a BJ from a homeless man for $5 but believe it’s Jennifer Lopez giving you it.
