The Civil War of the 1860s was an economic one.
The slaves of the South were the most valuable commodity of the entire country. The greatest wealth was the slaves.
Doing away with slavery was cutting the economic legs of the South out from under it.
The economy of the South was built on slaves.
Today we are told it was a human rights issue.
Thanks ironnat I couldn't remember the real reason for the war but I know today it is classified as a human rights battle.
Coach,
I am curious.
When is the last time you shot someone with your gun you carry around in your gym bag?
When is the last time you pointed your gun at someone to defend yourself?
How many times have you done either?
Do you carry a knife?
How many times have you pulled your knife in a self-defense situation?
I dont know that this is a completely fair question, as most police officers and/or soldiers haven't pulled their guns on people let alone shot them.
I think the real question would be is someone prepared to shoot or kill another person (especially with no training to do so). Coach and others may be prepared for this but the average American is not.
People go to court and count on the justice system to avenge their losses, this is true on all issues whether its financial or a situation that resulted in death.
Ive told this story before but in the 90s Michigan had a milita group who formed to fight government oppression (or something along those lines) long story short when the feds raided their warehouse/hideout not one shot was fired.
I dont think there are people today who are willing to fight.
