I made a sandbag with some leftover construction demo bags and 50lb bags of sand from Home Depot.

I just put the 50lbs bags of sand into the demo bags without dumping them out.

Not perfect but it works.  The individual bags shift around.

Hmm..next time I will duct tape the bags together before putting them in the demo bags so they don't shift.

Tried 150 but couldn't get it to my shoulder.

I got 100 pretty easy.

Did a bunch of singles to each shoulder.

The guy in the vid did 245 lbs.  He's strong as hell.

I have a problem buying equipment. Lucky I have a  big basement, lol. If I ever down size I will join a gym again and have adjustable dumbbells and some kind of bench with a few attachments. That way I can just push it to a small corner of a room. As you you know having a great variety of stuff you can use is great but never necessary. A barbell, squat racks and a bench is more than enough.

Ok, made some mods to my homemade 100 lb sandbag.

Tripled lined three demolition bags and put 4 heavy 45 gallon trash bags inside each other into the demo bags (had this stuff already laying around).

Poured the sand into the inside trash bags and tied them off, then tied off the demo bags

Much better.

I can open it up to add sand later on.

Each demo bag is rated for 100lbs so 3x100 should hold up as long as I don't abuse it.

If I can work up to 200lb that would be more than enough.

Used it this morning and it worked well.

Like I said if I didn't already have these bags laying around from a flooring job I would just buy a sandbag instead of screwing around.

These demo bags cost $27 for 20 bags and then you have the cost of the 45 gal trashbags.

Still much cheaper than a real strongman sandbag.

You might want to buy or make a sandbag. 
I think you would like using it.
You could handle a 100lb easy for a start.
I'm going to lift it one or two days a week for strength, power and endurance like in the video.
I have it out in my garage.

Don't agree with his comments on not doing sport specific training,  also if lifting a sandbag was so specific why are most labourer types not in great shape?
It's a training tool like anything else but not special.
As I wrote before we ran up fire escapes with a sand bag on our shoulders for strength & endurance.
Could I have got this from high rep squats,  certainly.
We didn't even have a barbell to use but we got the job done with a sandbag.

He said if your goal was a gymnast physique (big arms and shoulders?) and not gymnastics you be better off to train like a bodybuilder than doing gymnastics.

Did I miss something he said?

"When pure muscle building is the goal..."  i.e. appearance, do muscle building exercises, not sports.

There are too many fat American football players to argue with that.

Obviously, as far as skill training you get better at what you do.

To get better at jumping you have to jump.  Practicing guitar probably won't improve your vertical.

Will lifting barbells or sandbags make you a better tennis player?  Not hardly as much as playing tennis will.

All other things being equal, being stronger helps in most things.

I'm surprised you would say such a thing about laborers though, Donny.

Most laborer types are in great shape.  As long as they are actually doing the labor and not goofing off.

"Shape" in this case being defined as work capacity and not as appearance.

They would as the saying goes "work you into the ground".

I'm talking about guys who are movers, ditch diggers, longshoremen, etc.  Not forklift drivers.

You must know that a bodybuilding type appearance does not indicate physical health and work capacity. 

Ever done work as a professional mover or a ditch digger?  Try working a hand shovel for 10 hours a day or moving heavy furniture, boxes, and appliances likewise.

It's brutal.  Eventually, you do acclimate to such rigorous work.  It's much harder than hitting the gym for an hour and a half 3-5 times a week.

Work like that would kill your pretty boy drugged up bodybuilder.

He has another video where he talks about "farmer strength" and says lifting heavy free weights, odd objects, stones, sandbags all develop it.

I worked in construction when younger & most liked to drink & ate fast food , indeed sometimes we went to a baker's got a mince pie & had a couple of pints.
Wasn't unusual at all & tge site agent didn't say anything 
The biggest guys I saw on tge site was 2 joiners who were big powerful guys but far away from a bodybuilding type physique.
I saw some Labourers who were what I would call "wiry". Could climb up onto scaffolding all day.
Infact I worked in scaffolding too for a while which was very hard work.
Here's an interesting story which I was told by one of tge guys.
I never met the guy so just what he told me, there was a big black guy who worked there.
He was on the sauce & worked out & was a doorman part time.
Apparently he didn't last long so basically it's another type of fitness.
As I wrote most were wiry type guys, nimble but strong with it.

Obviously you're into the abbreviated training thing which is OK.
However training isn't just about sandbag lifting or strongman.
Infact maybe your thread would be better in the strongman section?

It's a strong man lift nothing to do with Bodybuilding " as such"
