The study is looking at high IQ individuals, so people who can tolerate complexity and the tension of opposites as it were. The more you can do that the more you tend to embrace liberal views (moderately though). Extreme views are idiotic either way.

this common sense thing is point in fact. There is nothing about immigration, abortion etc that is common sense. Common sense is .. don't touch the stove because its hot, don't put the glass at the end of the table because it could fall. Good sense is what you want to be saying.

It doesn't mean that high IQ folks don't have right wing views. It's also worth noting that the highest IQ folks tend to be male, so what that accounts for who knows.

Seems like the states that take the most federal welfare money is also the states with the highest rate of poverty, unwed mothers, drug use, welfare, high school drop outs, abortion rates, divorce, teen pregnancy, obesity, infant deaths, low life expectancy.  They do however, have the lowest rate of education as well.
