While almost no one is probably interested in this I'll mention something anyway. As every longtime Getbigger knows I'm very interested in compounds, supplements and drugs (there really is no line between a supplement and drug, or even these and for example a food, there are many Rx'ed drugs which are also compounds in foods, for example fish oils and fiber and so on). I'm taking antioxidants which have been shown in some animal and small scale human studies to help my physical ailments but antioxidants or "excessive" antioxidants may hurt and may lower the body's natural antioxidant defenses. Antioxidants before lifting also reduce or abolish the positive effects of exercise, for example even high dose vitamin C does this. Taleb talks about "natural stressors and evolutionary robustness" above. So antioxidants may be a double edged sword so I've been very aware of this as I've said on here before. And speaking of stressors, it's interesting that many health supplements like for example curcumin may act as hormetic compounds, that is they are actual poisons that make the body enhance it's own defensive mechanisms and by doing so strengthening the body.
