Bodybuilding was popular back in the 70's and maybe up to the mid 80's because the bodybuilders back in those days provided more realistic goals for regular people to look up to looking like. The guys of today are just to big, ugly, vascular and unhealthy looking. They may be huge masses of muscles but they look like shit to the majority of the population. Thats a fact. When Arnold was around and was the spokesperson for BB and was eevrywhere, people looked at him in awe. Eevryone did. He looked like what most guys wanted to look like yet he wasn't really heavy and except at contest time wasn't that vascular. So kids and guys looked at him and said I want to be like him.
Now with the changing of the guard where the top BB in the world is a huge mass of muscle and weighs close to 300 lbs, has veins as big as ropes, can barely walk and runs out of breathe climbing staris or posing for a few minutes, not many people see this as healthy or attractive. It isn't something the masses would want to look like. And no matter what anyone says on here, it is the masses that will keep BB shows alive. Sure their will be the teenager who wants to get as big as he can, but the are a minority. And they are not the ones who buy tickets to BB shows. Plus even diehard BB fans of manyyearsarenot supporting shows of today.
People always on here try to compare BB to other sports. But what you seem not to understand is that other sports are popular because they are all something most of us dreamed of doing. In other words, football is played by kids starting at age 8 for Pop Warner football, then high school then college, then pros hopefully. But even if they know they will never make it in the pros they love it cause they grew up with it or enjoy the competittion and exctiement. Two thing BB shows of today do not have. Same with baseball, basketball, hockey. Tennis and Golf is something you aren't born with. It is somethign that you can achieve if you put int the work and want it. It is something everyone can do and relate to. People like things they can relate too. There just aren't many people who can relate to a Coleman, Cutler or other of the top BB's.
PDI is going to bring back Bb to what it used to be, fun, exciting and something more and more people will be able to relate to. The days of guys like Coleman are ending. It has hurt BB and everything supports this from cancelled shows to lackluster audiences. PDI shows will be SHOWS. They will have something the IFBB does not provide and that is competiton, excitement and fun. Did you hear the crowd at eh show this past weekend. I didn't. Unless the poser takes his hands and tells the crowd to yell and amke noise there was hardly anything. I even heard someone whispering once. Everyone knows BB shows today are boring. PDI will change that. The competiton will be great cause you won't know who will when before the show. The judges are top quality where the IFBB judges bascially suck. SO you'll see a real competition along with exctiement. The bodies will be much more attractive to look at and muchmore appealing to the masses. And it is the masses that will propel PDI. And with that sponsor money will come in by the truckloads. Because the sponsors want to hit the masses. And to do it so directly is the perfect avenue.
Okay that is my speach for the day.
