its a damn shame that all anyone wants to talk about is DJs stomach...its also a damn shame that someone with a physique like dareem charles can beat him...someone who has no thickness from the back, no quad sweep from the front, terrible hams, terrible calves....oh but look at that tiny waist and no gut ;Dhes awsome...the only way that should ever happen is if DJ is way off condition wise and dareem is spot on but that wasnt the case....DJ is on stage somewhere in the 260 range so what if his gut is a little distended....he needs to control it better onstage as ronnie has done...were not talking bout dave palumbo or greg kovacs....DJ is a 1st tier bodybuilder...the only other criticism that can be given on his physique is that his lats tie in a little high...other than that he has full round muscle bellies and his level of muscularity is overwhelming... the standards used to judge the mr O should apply to all contests.

i agree that james beat charles in every bodypart but abs
darreem was more ripped though he has no legs it think it`s ok that darrem got 2. cause the stomache really destroys james great physique

I wish someone would post the video of his routine to silence you somewhat. You do have a point but the fact of the matter is his stomach was extremely detracting from his physique and irregardless of whether it is a matter of control he has to exhibit said control in order to place better. I'll repeat this again for you though, he was a bit softer than the other 4 guys in the top 5 and maybe if he was razor condition he would have been first.

DJ.s obliques are actually narrower than D.Charles in that front lat spread pic. Thats just aswesome with those shoulders. I think it´s a shame he got 3.rd too.

This is bodybuilding, Not who has the biggest muscle building. Go back and look at what this sport was about before this era.

90's 80's 70's It was about SHAPE CONDITION and size.... The millenium hits and the guys like you come out.. Size size size who cares if he sports a giant distended gut.... Denis James made the descision to play the game. he got a huge gut from it and now he is paying for it. Not baised judging or getting screwed. he screwed himself.

I agree 1000%- His stomach isnt even that bad and his waist to shoulder ratio is BETTER than Dareems- A man he ougweighs by 40 pounds. I agree if a competitors stomach looks like a beachball he shouldnt win but DJ won this show hands down...

Watch the replay dude. Dennis' stomach was a major drawback,It was visible from every angle. There is something wrong when a Professional bodybuilder, one of the elite, has to hold his stomach in to look good. And that goes for all of the stuffed sausage gut-builders

Yep, Dennis looked better in the prejudging but at the evening show his stomach was a major distraction. If you watch the video of the show you'll see this.

It's too bad, the contest could've turned out differently if he'd kept it in control.

I think some people just don't realize how bad big guts look unless they see video or even better see it live, pics do not tell the whole story by a longshot.

I think they judged it right,his stomach looks like shit.Dareem has always had great symmetry a wide back with a flat waistline.who gives a shit whether or not Dennis had him by 40 pounds symmetry should mean more then size when all is said and done.

Size should matter of course but if a competiter can gain good size without gainning a massive gh gut he should be placed higher then one who couldn't.

Exactly..... How many of you have been watching a show with a person not much into bodybuilding and the first thing they say is wtf is wrong with that dudes stomach? They say this because an unbiased person notices this right away. We as fans have trained ourselves to almost overlook this. A person with a GH gut the magnitude of James should always place below a guy with better aesthetics and comparable size aka Dareem at this show. Who cares how much he outweighs him by... Shit 20 of the 40 pounds are due to DJ having monster organs and bones.

DJ is one of the best out there today, he just keeps getting screwed. HUmmmm, wonder why? Anyway, I want to say that DJ is one of the guys I look up to and aspire to be as good as, although I doubt I will ever even be close.

He should have won the wole thing, just terrible.....

bodybuilders should not have stomachs that big in proportion to their physique.

jeeez...their are some bodybuilders out there who have huge distended stomachs but DJ is not one of them...yes i know his gut is somewhat distended but its not as bad as some of you are making it seem...yes i have seem him live onstage...he does need to work on controling it especially while he doing his routine and when hes relaxed...to say it ruins the rest of his physique is crazy...for a lesser bodybuilder it would ruin their physique but not for someone who is otherwise as complete as DJ...its a sad day for bodybuilding when dennis james loses to a very overrated dareem charles.
