The world would be a better place if more fathers spent quality time with their kids. I don't have any children, but I just started teaching my 12 year old nephew Martial arts at my dojo. He is severely overweight, so I think I might start taking him to the gym with me while he's out of school this summer. Totally off topic, but do you guys think he is too young for weight training? He is 5 foot 10, 260 pounds. Please no fat jokes, I love him like a son.

You touched on one of my favorite subjects. I have been training and working with kids now for almost 7 years, from young athletes to childhood obesity and with confidence I can tell you that being 12 is absolutly not too young to start training. But be smart about it, start out with bodyweight exercises first. Does he play or is he intrested in any sports? Also, I always make it a habit to NEVER put kids on a diet, if you do, it will fail GUARANTED, for right now clean up his eating and scale down his portions, but don't deprive him, just sets limits.

My boy is nine now and I started with him when he was 5 with the same program I described, now I can pretty much set him in the gym and tell him what exercises to do and he knows. Since he plays alot of baseball, his program is more sports specific meaning I will concentrate on strengthening his tendons and legaments first then the movement and finally the muscle (Bodyweight then loads paired with plyos) 2 days per week, then 2 days of conditioning.

Good stuff! I had the same problem with my neice because of my sister in law always feeding the poor kid cheese doodles and other crap as a meal.  I agree, hes not to young to work out, but clean up the meals and get them more active....

So I'm at the gym and this guy's doing squats with his son. This clown was going ass to the grass with 135 so I said "Yo faggola why don't you let me hop on that squat rack and show you how to quarter squat 4 plates and TURN IT OUT!" God I hate "normals" coming into my church (I denounced God after I found out Lent was a ploy to make me small) and fucking my shit up. Add to the fact I was low carb (25grams a day of vanilla wafers) I really could have deaded this guy most seriously.
