correction. he officially won TWO contests. the 1990 Ironman and the 91 ASC. and don't forget that he originally won the 90' ASC as well before he was DQ'ed for failing the drug test, which was retarded. let's not forget his longevity as well. he competed in the IFBB for 13 years (and retired prematurely IMO).

Lee Labrada has a better natural structue is better proportioned. he never placed below 5th in a Pro contest and won 5 more shows than Ray !! in the 5 times Labrada & Ray met Lee beat him 4 times and in my opinion Labrada was a better poser , Labrada all the way .

I will say of the two, Lee was the un-crowned Mr. O. He was robbed in 90 I believe it was.

It could have went either way in 89 as well but 1990 Labrada was ON !! and unlike Shawn Ray he never once bitched about his placing a true professional in every sense of the word .

Agreed, anyone ever see Mohammed Makkawy pose? Saw him live and IMO was the best ever. Anyone have him on tape somewhere?

I trained with him when I was a kid training at Bill Pearls in pasadena. He used to pose after every workout!

Really? I always thought he looked great. He really came into his own in the early 80's. Got a lot leaner and started to win some shows. I guess Vince Gironda helped him with his training and diet, is that correct? Do you no what ever happened to him? I know he made a comeback in 97.

When I trained with him I was 16 and Bill was helping him at that time, it's funny because at that time he couldn't have weighed much more than 175lbs and i thought he was huge. Last I heard, he was in Toronto either personal training or he owned a gym, I can't quite remember but he was doing well!

Some of you guys are crazy...Labrada was great in his day but not as great as Shawn Ray!!

Lee Haney called Lee Labrada, "Flea" Labrada. As for Shawn Ray..Lee Haney believed that Shawn will/would be Mr. Olympia one day....these were the words of Lee Haney about Shawn Ray....

I agree, Shawn retired prematurely. He is and will always be one of the greats...as is Labrada

I have to give it to Shawn.

Although Shawn is an inch or so taller, it seemed like more when they were side-by-side. This gave the "illusion factor" to Shawn throughout. I don't know what their weights were, but Ray seemed fuller, more dense. Lee seemed as long through the torso, but his legs appeared shorter with less volume.

Early on in their respective careers, Lee had him. However, after Shawn really upped his back, I felt he had it over Lee a number of times.

But Lee was great. A thinking man's bobybuilder who beat much more genetically gifted guys with proper approach and great work ethic.

And I still believe he had Haney in 89' and 90'.

Labradas physique would be one of the best all time, Mr Ray good but not in that class.

I saw labrada guest pose back in 88/89. He was a real class act. While not massive his proportion was amazing. I also have to say that his posing was out of this world. The best of his generation.

In posing ability I would say they are dead even. Both are some of the greatest posers ever easily (IMO). Superior structure is Lee's advantage where muscularity is Shawns. Both have completely different builds. I am fans of both. I sure solved a lot with this post.

Lee has mass for his size, he turned pro at 176 1/4 (middleweight) and never competed over 185-90 as a pro and is a couple inches shorter than Shawn Lee learned to refine and detail his physique without losing his great symmetry.......BUT, Shawn turned pro as a Lt. Hvy and never competed at more than 205-210lbs. He, like Lee new how to add size without losing symmetry.....so IMO, it comes down to structure and I personally think Shawn has him, Lee is just a little too narrow but Shawn has the overall package with little if any flaws....got to give it to Shawn!

labrada and by quite a distance. top 6 bodybuilders ever (arnold,ron,haney,sergio,yates,labrada) zane ray and kevin are all top 10 too
