There was talk for years that FOX was going to have a live action Star Wars TV show but the budget was the issue, but now that Disney bought it, the show is probably dead or will air on ABC.

Loved the Holiday special

Used to promote Empire Strikes Back.

Apparently Lucas Arts ordered to have the film destroyed but some copies existed.  Could be an old wives tale but they weren't happy they made this.

The "Special" was envisioned by a handful of executives from Fox (1977/78) as a way to further push STAR WARS onto the movie-going public. The company was gearing up for the film's first re-release and they wanted as much attention as they could muster.

He, like Fox 77/78, saw it as simply a quick tool to generate more interest in the re-release of STAR WARS. He did provide notes to the production company contracted to produce the show, on what the special SHOULD be about, but was NOT directly involved with the live action segments of the special in any way.

One portion of the SPECIAL that DID directly involve George Lucas was the inclusion of the Boba Fett character which was originally planned as a live action segment for the SPECIAL. Early 1978, in terms of STAR WARS toys, Lucasfilm LFL and Kenner began releasing advertising on various action figure packaging for a "BRAND NEW character to be featured in the BRAND NEW film".

George Lucas saw the HOLIDAY SPECIAL as a way to indirectly introduce the character of Boba Fett to the public in a way to help push toy sales, as well as generate interest in TESB, which was already in pre-production.

Still classic that FOX didn't see future value in merchandise for Star Wars and allowed Lucas to retain the rights for it.  Turned out to be a multi billion dollar mistake.

Wonder how much money Lucas has made from it.  he sold Lucas Arts for $4 billion but it doesn't include the billions he's already made since the 70's.

Lucas did not make billions in the 70's, but he certainly made millions.

There are copies of the Holiday Special around the web.

It is funny to watch at least once.

Art Carney, Bea Arthur and Carrie Fisher singing.

And it is true that it was the first time we saw Boba Fett.

I thought Boba Fett was the special character figure you got from one of the cereal promotions of sending in box tops.....

At least that's what I recall.....

He was. You're correct. But I think it was that you had to send in proof of purchase from other Star Wars action figures from A New Hope.

But he first appeared on the Star Wars Holiday Special in a cartoon segment.

It actually comes with the Blu-ray box set.

Update: YouTube has it.

I bought a friend a bootleg dvd of that holiday special for Christmas several years ago.

This poster of Rey pretty much confirms she's of Jedi descent or was trained as a Jedi.

That staff has a lightsaber built into it.  Or better still, that staff is a lightsaber she'll reveal when she faces off against her brother/cousin Kylo.

I think that could be pretty sweet!

So you're excited to watch a new Star Wars focused on some british girl as the Hero?  I'll leave this shit to the PC feminists.

Having a British Girl as a Hero is 1000 times better than having a Hebrew and i'm 100 % anti against movies with females/girls as a lead (unless it's pr0n).

He's really good actually in "Attack the Block", that's the only other film I'm familiar with that he's been in.  Very charismatic (no homo).

In the previews so far for Star Wars though he just looks really out of place / forced in.

Hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised.

In every preview he's panting real bad and sweaty as fuck.  It's like 4 different scenes and the same thing each time.  Like Wiggs having to walk to work.  Hahaha I mean to the 7/11.

I just think she is attractive.

She's grown on me since she was cast.

But no, I am in this for Kylo Ren and Kasdan's writing ability.
