Im on whats called the SAID program--saskatchewan assured income disability---I get 1380 dollars per month and from that I have to pay rent, groceries and other minor stuff. My utility bills are paid. I get discounts at piles of places. My meds are paid, dental is paid and I pay a small % of optical. I  can also hit food bank and grocery "chits". When all the side benefits are added up Id say I clear 1800 per month.

Go live in Thailand and find a way to keep receiving that money. You'll live a good life with that amount of money and you can tan and get the girls.

I think even if you have to spend like a period of time in Canada to keep receiving the money you can financially afford a plane ticket once a few months.

This is really great advice. Unless something drastic were to change, I probably won't be going to Thailand anytime soon. I have no reason to move there. If I were more of a world traveler, I'd consider visiting Thailand. 

No doubt there are folks here who could benefit from your good advice, so it isn't wasted.

Incidentally, isn't it advisable to have traveling insurance anywhere you go? I remember when my wife and I went to Mexico, we took out insurance for that trip in order to be able to drive in the country relatively safely.....like not getting put in a Mexican jail for failing to signal or some such thing. LOL!

As with most situations, it's how much it costs to keep a roof over your head. The rent for a average one bedroom apartment starts at $1,200/month, not including utilities. Even a room at the YMCA goes for around $800 and you have to share a bathroom with everyone on the floor.
