The current health reform bill, once enacted, will be no different. The people will love it and all the scare mongering will become an embarrassing memory for your Republican party that GOP politicians will try to distance themselves from."
Great point. Medicare and social security were once thought of as silly Dem ideas. Today, it would be political suicide for any politician to say "I'm going to end your medicare."
Sure it all sounds good. Minimum wage sounds good too. It still makes people worse off in the long run, especially the poor. If you could just legislate away poverty with wage floors you could simply enforce a minimum wage of $100 an hour and there would be no poverty. True elimination of poverty can only take place in a society with more production where the value of every dollar is worth more. Everyone in Zimbabwe is a billionaire - are they better off? People in Cuba have free health care and have equality of income. Are they better off?
It makes me sad that people in the USA seek to destroy the very principles which made the nation the most powerful one on earth to begin with.
