This could be a fatal mistake, but Trump has a great track record when it comes to reading what his base wants. I think everyone has had their fill the daily reports on COVID-19. It's good to be informed as long as the information is valid. Both the media and Trump are fishing for material at this point.

Here's the routine:

Let's get back to work and fix the economy before it goes beyond a quick repair which can help him get elected. Go with that choice and risk that so many folks start getting sick and dying that it becomes obvious it was the wrong choice. I don't envy Trump's dilemma.

Yikes! Hadn't thought about that. Oregon PERS investment earnings are dependent on the market. If the State filed bankruptcy, there would be a domino effect, which would no doubt decimate PERS. There are 367,853 members of the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System. That's roughly 9 percent of the state's population. PERS retiree spending contributes a lot to the health of Oregon's economy. But, our benefits are also funded in part by the state.

President Donald Trump floated a proposal that would see the government purchase years of tickets from airlines at a discount.

Speaking Friday at a bill signing, the president said he spoke with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

“I told Steve we’re the biggest user of the airlines—the United States government. And one of the ways we can help the airlines is buy tickets at a very large discount, maybe 50 percent off or maybe more,” Trump said.

“And you buy into four or five years’ worth of tickets, and you infuse them with some cash. And in the meantime, we’re flying the people of our country for, you know, a fraction of the cost that it would be if the—you know, when the airlines get back.”

Trump said he’s liked the idea for a while.
