If your LA Fatness is anything like mine, there is no gym ediquette either. A kid walked under one side of the Smith machine I was Front Squatting on. He thought I was still resting and was apologetc but still aLmost smacked the top of his head.?!? He was rolling a DB and I so badly wanted to say, "If it is too heavy to carry back to the F'in rack, then its too heavy for you to lift little guy!?"

I was thinking, and you're right, bro.

At my gym, alot of people "roll" the DB's rather than lift them to whatever bench or equipment they're working on.

I think it's hilarious that someone would roll weight around instead of picking it up.

You do know that "lifting" the weight and setting it down is going to help build your grip strength over time, right?

Then you have people who walk right in to your sets, either right before you're getting ready to lift or when you leave to get a drink.

People either assume you're done or simply don't care.

I don't get any of that because most people think I'm a total asshole at my gym.

I'm the guy who doesn't talk, chat, say "hi", whatever.......totally in to my own workout and ignore virtually everything else.

Most of the regulars are people I have nothing in common with and while I'm not rude to them, I don't go out of my way to be friendly with them.

I'm simply in there to get my sets and reps trying to stay within that hour, then hit the cardio and get the fuck out.

Most people don't re-rack their weight, either which makes YOU look like a dick when you don't.

You can call me whatever you want according to my attitude, but I always re-rack......always.

There are alot of elderly and older people at my gym and I'll help them adjust equipment if they don't know how, things the staff should be doing.

I also will help women un-rack weight left from others if they can't lift it.

Sometimes that's all it takes to make someone's day, the little things.

in my gym sometimes the closest bench is 15 feet away form the larger DBs... (110s, etc).  if there is a clear path, whats the problem with rolling them?  get a hernia to show that I can lift it?  I can show that when i lift them on the bench.

rolling anything 100 and under, is just pathetic...

Just my opinion, baby worm.

Difference of mindset.

I think that lifting the weights and moving them to your bench can only help your strength, esp grip.

Rolling the weights along the floor like a child is lazy and very weak.

Same thing with those who drop the weights after finishing a heavy set of DB's.

I'm waiting for the day when some unfortunate soul does that and hits me with one.   ;D

thats funny cause the owner of the gym i go to is a screamer on light ass weights it makes me laugh in side good thing i have my MP3 blasting some hardcore metal nonstop what i think is against gym ed. is the dumbells in the wrong order or a 35lb next to a 40lb

Alot of people throw the weight back wherever there's an opening.

well im a db dropper cause im not going to tweak my rotator cuff over it but if im looking for a db and its all messed up and i see someone doing it i will give them an ass chewing over it just like jumping on my equipment

i agree but if you get above, say the 120's and drop them they will start to bend over time and can make then a little more difficult to manage. just my opinion.

I laught at the DB droppers.....and shake my head.

I'm the guy who lifts one DB in each hand whether it's the unrack or re-rack.....

Most guys don't have the strength to carry 120's and up, with one in each hand.

They simply want to do things the easy way........very sloppy and lazy.

ill carry them row them and shrug them but when it comes to setting them up for pressing my shoulders dont like it i know what you mean its the "IF YOUR NOT BIG ENOUGH TO RACK THEM YOUR NOT BIG ENOUGH TO USE THEM" rule also my lower back takes a tole on it also

If you cannot put the DBs down w/o droping them after a set your lifting to much............if you feel the need to push urself to the max then have a spotter that can help you put them down.  I get so pissed when people use DBs that are too much for them b/c their form is garbage and they are not getting shit out of it.  as for me I keep to myself at the gym I am not there to meet people and chat, I am there to get gains, nothing more.  I lift at my college's rec center so I will punk people to get off the bench if I wanna work out and they are chatting about some girls ass.  With young college kids in my gym it turns into a dick measuring competition all the time, for instance tonight I was doing flat bench with 225 till muscle failure and this fat ass dude came and asked "can I sneak a few reps" and I said "sure I am resting" and he got down all motivated and I asked if he wanted a spot and he proudly said "no i got this" and he couldn't even get it off his fat titties an inch one time........those are the dudes I just want to choke out.  He shoulda been on the treadmil.  then to try covering up the shame of trying to bench as much as the 5'7 165lb little guy and failing miserably he then told me about his injury and why he couldn;t get it up........all i heard was the noise charlie brown heard when adults talked........

hahahha seriously thats what I hear when people make excuses for having weak bodies........just like when I had Soldiers under me and they would make excuses when we worked out........I hate it, as long as ur pushing urself (and i can tell when people are) I will have the upmost respect for you.  When I was 16 I was 5'5 140lbs wet but i always pushed myself as hard as possible and would not make excuses.

If it's a heavy DB and if I'm getting tired, I may very well roll it. I don't see any need in taking energy away from my set. Lugging a couple of 100lb+ DB's 20 feet or more is tiring. I'd rather kick them right over there and go right to my set.

I bring my own water, so I guess I've never had that problem...never had anyone walk into my set right before I lift. Now I have had someone try to carry on a conversation when I am actually lifting...I just finish my set and don't say a word, then when I'm done say heloo or answer their question or whatever.

This one cracked me up since I'm the complete opposite. I speak to most everyone. Not necessarily long conversations, but hello's how are you, what's up, that sort of thing. And I will talk to anyone in between sets if they want...it doesn't affect my workout either way. Plus. my family and I have been in this area for the last century, everyone know who me or my family is, I would have to go to a gym 100 miles away if I didn't want to speak to anyone.

I'm simply in there to get my sets and reps trying to stay within that hour, then hit the cardio and get the fuck out.

Same on this one as far as time. I get my training done in a hour pretty much every time. The only time it might go over an hour is if I am doing very heavy squats or deads and need extra breathers...but most of the time it's one hr.

I will take all the weight off except for leaving a 45 on each side. Most people and by most I'd say close to 100% who can't take off the 45's are not using the benches I use in the first place.

Plus, we have guys at my gym who's only job is going around picking up weights, un-racking, etc...don't want them to lose their jobs, lol!

Dropping DB's: I don't do it often, very rarely, but it does happen....especially in I'm doing very heavy weight to failure or negatives. I don't make a scene out of it and drop them from the top of the movement or slam them down, but yeah, you bet your ass I'll drop them if I need to.

You're right, it is fine to have a partner help you lay them down softly. But for the past year my training partner has been a girl. She is one of the more hardcore lifters in that gym, but I do not expect her to grab two 100lb+ DB's out of my hands from up high and set them down.

dude i just wear a cut off sleeve T and some gym shorts but i see your point i see guys with geled hair and like jerseys and shit however i did break that rule once, i was commign back from a cavs game and I had my lebron jersey and i had to get a lift in before they closed so i just went straight from the game to my gym and lifted in my lebron jersey.........i felt pretty retarded, thank God not many people were there to see it.

i cant wear tanks and shit cause iam not cut down but all my tees have a cut in the neck so the wont choke me and my back and arms stretch the rest out and i got a gut like a power lifter but there isnt any question when u see me if i lift i just hold all my fat on my bellyit has the bloated look but hard as hell

dropping DB's is unnecessary and pisses me off can't even use ours at my gym anymore all bent to hell there is ways to pop up when your done...and if you go to failure and get stuck there is no need to toss them if you got that much left in you then you got enough to get them up and pop up...

And re-rack your damn weights like DIV said you got elders and women at the gym also...we have 100LB plates at my gym and they are the worst thing no one ever takes them off.

Do you eat right?  My roomate was strong as a bull but had a "belly" and i helped him with a new diet and after about 8 months of dedication (all natural) he got it flat and now is starting to show some definition but he had to eat stuff that he hated.  however he lost some upper body definition b/c he concentrated on abs and lower body at the gym and did nto have enough time with work and school to get a good upper body workout.

well the last 3 years i ate everything there was to eat and all the over the counter supps to get from 190 - 275 and this is my very first cycle,,,,, i desided to AAS cause it took so much effort to get big natuarly,,,,,, i dont eat alot of carbs or any fast food junk all lean cuts and a shit load of fish

Jay Cutler rolls the 150's and 160's in his videos too but i guess that's because he's too skinny and weak to carry them. ::)

i always enjoyed the challenge of cleaning the big dumbells , used to get help to get them moving from my shoulders tho.... i wouldnt roll anything under 100 either,,, at our gym all dumbell under 100 are racked, all above are on the floor....

he had a soft schdl. this season, he will flop trust me.  I am not saying my browns are any better but Jay Cutler is crap and was a product of the crappy teams he played.  They didn't even make it to the postseason

The DB's are lifted, never thrown or bounced or dropped.

I figure that lifting the DB's is part of the exercise, helps with grip also.

...we have 100LB plates at my gym and they are the worst thing no one ever takes them off.

Those are great.

They come in handy.

I know many of guys that has been thrown out of gyms and lost their memberships due to throwing DB's and dropping plates to hard on the ground in between sets..

If I go heavy heavy, I always have a spotter or two and they grab the weights and we do this once a week with each other just for that fact. We help each other after tsets and then help carry them back..But like it was mentioned earlier?, I always carry both DB's to the bench, and if im lifting heavy my bench is going to be close by! Helps on grip and work the hell out  of ur forearms...

There is a difference between rolling a DB after a set or sets and are wiped out. It is hard to explain our LA Fatness gyms here and their crowd unless you came down to see for yourself. The guy was using a 100lbs db on Hyperextensions!! Now, c'mon, no one uses wieght that heavy for hypers if done correctly!?!? Plus, you dont roll a DB under the bar of someone squatting, right?

I can picture everything DIV is talking about because even though we are on the other side of town, members are the same, mostly young, inexperienced douche bags that have no gym ediqutte.

There is also a difference between "contolled" dropping of DB and just letting them fly from the bottom posistion of a lift. A lot of our db are broken where the handle and weight join because of guys trying to lift more than they can CONTROL!

I also ALWAYS take my weights off, is what I was taught and to set an example. I have noticed a lot more of the douche bags taken their weights off recently when done with their sets

Boils down to proper gym ediqutte, I was taught by the old school lifters, if you can't lift it, dont put it on! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!  8)

That is different than a kid 165 lbs soaking wet rolling a DB he struggles with on his lift.

Again, if you are wiped out from your sets or getting into the 150+, then that is understandable.

Jay should just hire someone like Ronnie did to unload his weights and roll his DB's  :D

That's another thing.

We have the new DB's that are rubber coated, but the old type were plates screwed together and they'd get fucked up when people threw them all over the place.

If I saw someone rolling a DB under a guy who was squatting, I'm not sure whether I'd laugh or just watch to see it unfold.....

Seriously, some of these kids deserve what will happen when they drop a DB on someone......esp one of the bigger guys.

If you don't re-rack your weight, you're basically contributing to the problem.

I rarely see anyone who can carry 100+ DB's for any length of distance......not in my gym.

Kids will roll them or pick them up one at a time.

I do think it's funny, though, to see the reaction of women when the weights are dropped......it tends to scare them away from the free-weight area.

Like baby gazelles running from impending danger.
