Adam, when I first saw this on CNN, I was pleasantly surprised. I have been reading Hitchens' books and articles for years, and I can't tell you how much of an influence he has been in my own work. And I have to admit, Anderson Cooper's interviewing skills actually added to the quality of the discussion. Wolf Blitzer (etc.) would not have been able to handle this.

I was very impressed with the posts both on this board and in other places I read which criticized Jerry Farwell. He was an offensive and prejudice person pretending to act under the guise of peace and kindness. It made me realize that there are more thinkers out there than I once thought!

TA - Anderson Cooper is kind of an irrational person though too isn't he?
Do you remember that tomb of Jesus documentary? I caught a news piece on CNN with Anderson Cooper interviewing one of the main parties involved in the production. As a refutation, Anderson was going on about how the documentary was irrational and unscientific. A religious person saying that - wow! Blew my mind. He failed to acknowledge that simply discussing the topic at all in a "scientific" manner is logically bankrupt and hypocritical.

Take it easy. Some people base their entire self worth on reactions they get on the internet. :-\
Furthermore, TA also "knows for a fact" (somehow) that no deities exist. I guess he has combed every atom in the universe to somehow claim with absolute certainty this "fact". What's more laughable is that he claims to be less ignorant than religious people who "know for a fact" there is a deity (somehow).

I'm saying TA needs to learn how to relate better to people. I like TA, only because I can see beyond his bluntness and insensitivity. Most people would be turned off from anything he says unless they already agree with him.

most people like TA . . . whenever they feel things are going badly, all they have to do is look at one of his pics to realize that they could be doing a lot worse. He is a true comfort to the masses.

If I may, let me beam a ray of light on this shaded issue for a moment...Are we all to interpret your 6 year plan of failure as a beneficial and worthwhile step towards your accomplishments. Are we to suggest that Regression is the new Progression and that a continual challenge is worth more than the actual goal?
Or are you just a Bosnian anomaly(most Bosnians have a tendency to be on the lean side), with bigger teets than the borrowed village goat your Euro-trash mother made you suckle on?

Hitchens may well be the best at what he does. The Beef loves to read Hitchens ( The Nation.)

Well he's dead now. :)
The reason he had such a huge following was because a huge demographic of America felt how he felt. Let's face it, the same crowd that followed Farwell (christian right), are the same ones supporting Bush and itching to invade Iran. They're the same ones who refuse to accept a secular state and don't a respect a woman's right to choose, etc.
His audience and supporers were stupid drones who couldn't comprehend their own thoughts and ideals, so they looked to a fat preacher. Sound familiar?
