Last race I had I brought a bodybuilder friend of mine convinced he was the shit and was like "bro - I got this shit - look at some of these people" I asked him was what he was doing to train - it was about 4.7 miles on a ski ridge - and he was like - yo I go on the treadmill and stick to my bb routine. Needless to say - within the first half mile he was freaking done and finished barely crawling over the finish line and had a torn bicep and had to sit in first aid for an hour. I'm going for overall fitness and strength over duration of time since functionality serves more purposes to me than bing good in one lift. What good is being strong in one or two lifts for a few reps if you cant run up a flight of stairs wo being gassed? When I was heavier I was repping 315 on the bench for 10-12 or so - but guess what - I could not run 800 meters wo feeling like I was dying. in my mma classes I was gtting winded fast and could not use the strength at all when I was cramped up and gasping for air. For me now - its all about overall fitness - strength, stamina, endurance, and functionality.
