I wouldn't even go that far. Honestly I'd suggest that it's different but most importantly that it provides a better voice for the people.
But corporate influence is still an issue.
The big difference is that despite corporate influence, politicians will a least beat a hasty retreat when it's clear the majority of the public are against their actions or proposals (hence the ironic and contradictory actions of ON's education minister) but in the USA, it seems to be a case of "This is what we want, and by golly come hell or high water, we're going to go this route regardless of what the public wants." Picture poor widdle Georgey boy all alone with only Barney by his side.
Or maybe it's just a matter of politicians beating a hasty retreat only when they feel there is a chance the public will remember their actions in the next election. I've noticed, the closer the election, ...the hastier the retreat.
