MindSpin, the MMA moderator who knows nothing about MMA. According to him, he didn't buy the UFC 139 PPV because he didn't care about watching two "old PRIDE cans" fighting. Well, it turned out those two PRIDE cans put on a fight that even MindSpin's Jon, Dana White, regards as one of the best 3 ever. MindLess owned!!!! ;)

Was a great fight.

But really suck, it's one's opinion vs. another.  I really don't consider that being "owned".

Meh...I'd take Edgar/Maynard III, and probably several other fights over this one. It was a back-and-forth fight, but there have been MANY fights like that in mma.

I've watched all UFCs since the first one in 1993 as well as all PRIDE events from 1997 to 2007 and I have seen no more than a few fights even at this level. Granted, I haven't watched much of the lower promotions except for Jungle Fight and a little DREAM fights, so maybe I have missed something.

What constitutes a "great fight" is a matter of opinion. Part of it for me is my level of interest in the two fighters who are doing the fighting.

While I greatly respect Shogun's accomplishments in PRIDE, I did not follow him at that time. In his career thus far in the UFC, he has been inconsistent. Other than his fights against Machida, quite frankly I have not been particularly impressed. As far as Dan Henderson, I do not believe Hendo to be a top 5 LHW at this time, his defeat of Fedor notwithstanding. The man was easily defeated by Jake Shields! Therefore, my interest level in this match up was rather low going in. There was little chance of me ranking this as a "top 3 of all time" fight no matter how much of a slug fest it may have become.

A fight is judged to be good or not depending on the level of skills displayed and not by what the fighters that took part in it have accomplished in the past, but in this case the history of both fighters adds value to the fight since they are both legendary. The other thing that makes a fight great is if it is a slugfest. Lay&pray kind of fights where wrestlers try to get each other on their backs and win via decision(GSP and Lesnar fights) can display very high levels technically but are boring to watch. BJJ grappling matches can be exciting or not depending on who you ask. This fight was great because the levels of skills displayed by both fighters is staggering and the fight was full of comebacks by both fighters.

As for Shogun and Hendo, they are the top of the top of the pecking order at the 205 lbs division. Proof: the current title contender at 205 lbs lost to Shogun twice. Hendo just KOd the most legendary heavyweight ever and is the only man to ever win PRIDE belts in two different weight divisions. I think that either Shogun or Henderson is the #2 at the 205 lbs division. Who besides Jon Jones and Hendo can beat Shogun? I don't see Rashad, Tito, Griffin or Bonnar beating Shogun.

he's been owned before.. once he claimed Shane Carwin bulked up to 290-300 lbs for one fight, when he normally fights around 245-255 lbs.

CroCop vs Fedor has gotta be #1 to me. Most of Shoguns fights are considered some of the best just because the guy is technical and goes out there for the kill. Unlike some fighters who wont be mentioned.

top 3 fight can be 2 cans that don't even make the main card, doesn't mean it drew a lot of people, so his decision to skip the paperview has nothing to do with the fight ending up being a good fight. However you can say something like,"ha,in your face" or "you suck" for missing a kick ass fight, but I wouldn't say "owned :-\

Oh my...I've just now seen this thread.  LOL.  How am I owned?  Yes, it was a great fight, but unlike Dana and many others believe, it was far from the greatest fight ever ::) It looks like you're now falling for the Dana hype machine...lol.  After the 3rd round, both fighters were completely gassed.  And, this fight had very little to offer in terms of technical abilities.  What made it great, was that both guys showed a lot of heart...that's it.

Now, you've always accused me of being a UFC nut hugger and always siding with the UFC no matter what.  Well you're wrong.  I think Dana is an idiot and, the best fight that Saturday night happened over at Bellator.  If you have not seen it already, watch Eddie Alvarez lose his title in an unbelievable back and forth battle that incorporated all elements of MMA.  And, this fight actually had am awesome finish.

Once again, check mate...you're owned :)

With this post, you just proved what an ignorant MMA fan you are.  If you think slugfests are whist make good fights, then stop watching UFC or any other organized combat sport, and just go to youtube and watch backyard brawls with no skill and lots of slugging...lol.

MindLess, if you really think that all those two showed was heart and nothing more, you are crazy. Shogun put on a Muay Thai clinic in this fight, and both fighters showed incredible wrestling on the ground, and Shogun made several submission attempts that you only see at the black belt level in BJJ. Saying that Shogun and Hendo, two guys who own multiple belts from several organizations and have a combined three decades of fighting experience, showed nothing but heart in this fight is so stupid that I don't know why I am even arguing with you.

After this fight, I am convinced that Fedor, Shogun and Hendo are the three greatest MMA fighters ever. There is no question on my mind. All three from PRIDE. Shogun took a lot more damage in this fight than in his fight with Jon Jones. If he shows this durability in a rematch with Jones and lend at least one of those huge punches on Jones chin, he will regain his title. Forrest Griffin also beat Shogun once and look what Shogun did to him in a rematch. Oh, but the true rematch will be Shogun and Hendo again because Hendo will beat Jones and take the belt.

I'm very pleased to see that the moniker I invented for MindSpin has taken off around here.

My favorite Mindless comment about MMA involved Brock Lesnar. Mindless actually made the argument that Lesnar's cowardice when it comes to striking and his penchant for running away from other fighters in the octagon is comparative to Lyoto Machida type "elusiveness" and is part of a greater game plan orchestrated by Lesnars coaches.  ::)

The sad part is that I am not making any of this up.

MindLess claims that all Shogun and Hendo have is heart. Well, here is Shogun's highlights from PRIDE. Just look at the extremely technical level of his Muay Thai. I don't know if MindLess is aware of this, but Shogun is a Muay Thai grand master considered to be one of the most technical in the World. Black belts in Muay Thai actuallly travel to Chute Boxe to take lessons from him. MindLess knows shit.

That's actually not what I said.  I know that you get owned so badly that you have to resort to fabricating nonsense and distorting facts.  What I said was that in their most recent fight, Hendo & Shogun did not display a lot of technical prowess.  They did start strong, and then both were completely gassed and resorting to fighting out of pure heart.  You say Shogun put on a muay thai clinic?  LOL.  Look at the fight again.  He all but abandoned his muay thai and resorted to sloppy boxing.

The argument is not whether ot not these guys have good technical skills.  The argument is whether to not this was the greatest fight ever.  And, while they put on a great display of heart, it was a sloppy fight.  Right up there with what you get any time Leonard Garcia fights.

Fedor, Shogun and Hendo are the three greatest MMA fighters ever?  LOL...they have all lost miserably.  Hendo lost to Jake Shields...a welter weight weight and he was finished by the Spider!  Rua lost to Forrest Griffin, lost to Mark Coleman, barely got past an him on their 2nd fight and was demolished by Jon Jones.  Don't even get me started on Fedor.  He has less tan 5 legitimate wins and the record for fighting more cans than anyone in the history of MMA.  Come on son.  Those are horrible picks and show just how ignorant you are.
