Hard to believe he was prob on dbol maybe 600 primo and plus or minus deca and looked that good... maybe he just trained hard. I see guys today on 3 grams of gear and are 1/10th the size
There is a video of Arnold and this 1980 Mr. O contest:http://www.gmv.com.au/default.asp?pageid=products&template=PRODUCTCAT&catid=8&prodid=1006&site=1 Btw, in the original Pumping Iron book (1974) Arnold's weight is listed as 235.
He was 237. In 1974 MrO Leading to 1980 show he was 225 ... Not sure how much he weighted on stage in Sydney though
I've seen 242 and 247 for the 74 before, 247 definitely looks more like it.
May as well throw in my 2 cents.I was there......at one point sitting right next to that big camera in the aisle. Finals....right behind Joe Weider who actually turned round and asked...do u think Arnold should've won? Admittedly I didn't have a very experienced eye at the time but in my humble opinion Arnold shouldn't have won. For my money...Zane...smaller yes but better proportioned, more complete, better posing. Arnold was sweating bullets. Franco even came on stage to towel him off. Must say the images in that big movie camera looked different to what I was seeing on stage. Saw Arnold the next day at Vince's gym. Up close it was hard to believe the night b4 he had been announced the best in the world.Franco was giving a seminar.....couldn't believe how short he was and his amazing lat spread.
I loved Arnold's look that year, his conditioning was stellar. Others looked their best that year, but had flaws. Roger Walker was huge but had crippling gyno, Mentzer's chest seemed to disappear in certain shots, etc.
