Title: How do I know if I need HRT?
Post by: Never1AShow on July 28, 2015, 06:00:12 AM
Can a family doctor make this call or do I need to go to one of those special clinics that specializes in diagnosing this?

I family doctor probably wont give a shit about low testosterone, they will if its high though. A simple blood test will tell you your test level.

I doubt my family doctor even includes this on my yearly blood test, is test level something normally measured?

This seems like something I'd need to ask for or see a specialist about.  I often feel more tired and run down than I used to and also more cranky/angry.  Is that just life and the pressures of middle age?  Is it andropause?  But I am in good shape, lean, work out, good libido (except when tired from work).  It's just a lot harder than it used to be to keep the fire burning.

My level was tested when I went to the GP but that was probably because I admitted to using test. Are there any TRT endocrinologists in your area?

It's pretty simple.  If you're over 32 and couldn't make decent gains in a gym and are looking for a "valid" reason to hop on the sauce....you qualify.  Happens all the time.  Remember, anabolics are bodybuildings consolation prize.
I always recommend someone join a bowling league or racquet ball club instead.  Nothing worse than walking around "acting as if".

I've just ordered an online blood test this week cause I'm feeling like shit when exercising. Only cost 50 quid and you don't have to worry about spinning any bullshit excuse to your doc. If it's really low then I'll maybe go mention it to them.

I did this. Came back low. Took it to my doc. He retested, came back low. Still didn't want to put me on TRT so I fucking did it myself.

Fair one, that's what I did once when I dieted down stupidly low and couldn't really recover. I jumped on 250 test a week just to try it, felt amazing but had horrendous side effects with it so came off after about 12 weeks. Wasn't worth it for me.
I'm hoping if I do come back low again that I could just do a course of hcg and cut down the cardio for a bit

What kind of sides on 250? That's a pretty minuscule dose overall.

A family doctor can run labs that will determine whether your testosterone levels are low.

If you are looking to start HRT, consider going to an endocrinologist. They specialize in these matters and can properly start you on TRT with appropriate lab work every 3-6 months as needed.

Good luck.

Very soon, I will make the transition to TRT. Need to find a doc that believes that 200+ is the "sweet spot". NFW am I gonna drop to 125mg/3 weeks.

My HPTA is shut down, no shots for 3 weeks and my test will be in the negative numbers.

Come out of the shadows!

Yuh you got to find the right doc....My doc said as long as your within 'the range' he won't do it.
His reasoning is that if he prescribes it to someone who really isn't that low or near low that if anything happened to them relating to testosterone supplementation he could be sued and lose his practice/business.He also added that if he prescribes it to Joe that Joe might be ok but if he prescribes it to Rick that Rick may suffer some side effect or something more serious.

Great stuff.  Always meant to chain up a pregnant woman in the basement & make my own.

Also oxandrolone for strength.  Girly drugs are great.  I didn't like test either.  It made me unpleasant.

Endocrinologists typically know nothing about TRT. You'll want to find a doctor who specializes in HRT. Typically it's an internist. But by and large, TRT is not taught in formal medical training so 9/10 doctors won't know anything about it other than the 1 day lecture they had a decade ago.

If your arms are under 19' (no flab) - you are pretty much a perfect candidate for HRT.

This was my entirely uninformed guess about how it lies.  Is it pretty much like a little bit more formal medical marijuana type deal where you go in to a place that does HRT and everyone walks away with HRT that wants it?  Insurance paid also (probably pretty cheap anyway)?

I waited until I was 49 and my natural levels were in free-fall anyway. It wasn't a moralistic decision, it was just that it didn't dawn on me to hop on gear. It was only when I noticed that I was getting tired, libido fading and a really bad tendon injury that I started looking into it. I was all about TRT until my doc (who I like) denied the scrip. Fine.

Been on 200-250 for a little over a year and my bloods are unchanged. I think that it's wise to let people know that there is a suppression of natural test, but I've had friends go on TRT and come off after 6 months and bounce back in a couple of months.

That said, some regimins are about quality of life.

I wouldn't recommend paying for a mail order blood test. Most doctors will actually want to have the test done themselves. Your GP can get Test results if you specifically ask for them to be included in the blood workup.. but if you know going in your doc is not a fan of TRT then don't waste your time. Go to a Urologist who specializes in it. One of your friends can likely give you a recommendation. I switched from the gel (family doctor ) to pellets (Urologist) and prefer the urologist. He listens to my input on whether I want to up the dosage or not. He won't go over 1100 but I don't want to either. He keeps me around 900-1000 and I'm good there.

If your goal is quality of life then there are doctors who specialize in stuff like this. You'll find plenty in bigger cities but just do a little research online first.

If you just want to abuse a prescription then I've seen a lot of news articles regarding Florida being a state with many crooked doctors who don't really give a shit!

Can a family doctor make this call or do I need to go to one of those special clinics that specializes in diagnosing this?

The answer is yes a primary care physician can make this call. My urologist prescribed testosterone to me several years ago after a blood test revealed my having very low test levels, even for a man of my advanced age. Endocrinologists are a good choice because their approach to treating low test levels is probably the most comprehensive. All my doctor prescribes is the testosterone and not the other supplemental drugs that an endocrinologist would, such as, HCG and an aromatase inhibitor.

Any doctor can do a blood test which should include both free and complete test levels and a PSA test. If your PSA is unusually high or fluctuates a lot, most doctors are reluctant to prescribe testosterone. It is believed that taking testosterone can accelerate prostate cancer when you already have it. Medical science has mixed ideas on whether using testosterone can cause prostate cancer. In my case, being on testosterone is probably the reason prostate cancer was discovered so early on. It was stage I and it was well contained. I have been in remission for a couple of years. Today my PSA is considered undetectable because it is so low (0.02).

shots are said to be the best.. Gel the worst..pellets trade off is lack of control on effects (until dialed in) the beginning and the end of the 4 month period where test may drop off. I get them every 3. 5 months to alleviate that and I like the fact it's once every 3.5 months then I forget about it.

So are you still on testosterone now? I read somewhere that all men start slowly having enlarged prostates from age 25 onwards. So basically if you get old enough as a man everyone eventually gets prostate cancer

funny this is posted. I just started HRT 2 weeks ago. Took my 2nd shot this morn.

I went to my doc and asked her if i could get my testosterone levels checked. She just asked y. I said i was pretty sure it was low. She asked why i thought that and i told her my symptoms. She sent me for blood tests and they came back REALLY LOW lol. She then referred me to an endocrinologist. He put on HRT.

I am still on HRT. As one ages, their test levels decrease. When you are on HRT, you are pretty much on it for the rest of your life, if you want to maintain good health.

One can have a enlarged prostate and not develop cancer. My prostate was enlarged for as long as I can remember. I no longer have a prostate. After I had the prostatectomy, I waited two years before the doctor would again prescribe testosterone. As I mentioned before, PSA numbers are a good indicator that something is not right with the prostate. My numbers for almost 3 years now have been considered undetectable. If they should change, I would likely have to go off all hormone replacement. Men who wait too long to find out or do something about prostate cancer have worse outcomes. Prostate cancer can metastasize. If it does, the prognosis is usually much worse.

You are right, pretty much every man will develop prostate cancer if they live long enough. It is normally a very slow growing cancer. Old men like me, usually die of other causes before the prostate cancer kills them.

Depo-Test Cyp  100mg every 2 weeks

This is a low dosage. When I started on HRT the doctor had me on 300mg every three weeks. The bad thing about this method of administering test is that you will often go through some highs and lows. For this reason, I eventually elected to do my own injections every week. Currently, the prescription calls for 300 a week, although I only take about 250. This is the only way I could get 10 mil vials and have them covered by my insurance.

Use lower doses more frequently subcutaneously to stabilise your levels, works well, no highs and lows, can avoid the weight gain from water of other methods.
Every 5 days for cypt 7 days for ena, warning though as the dose is usually 50-75 most juicers won't like it but the old 250mg a week is overkill and doing it every 2-3 weeks just gives you a period of high then low

Just back load a slin pin and inject slow into skin top of thigh or abs much less painful than im route as well as you get older shots shit you.

I don't use anymore just as I feel ok off but I find this method absolute best from health point of view

Stay away from family docs and GPs when going the TRT route.  They don't know shit about keeping up with the latest trends in mens health and testosterone therapy.  They will start you off on Androgel and crap first.

To whoever said they were taking 100mg every two weeks, that is the worst thing you can do by spreading out the injections that far.  You are getting extreme peaks and extreme  drop offs.  There isn't anything consisted with a schedule like that.  If you only want to do 100mg every two weeks, you will be better off shooting 25mg each Monday and Thursday.   That small of a dose, you can actually do it SQ as well.

Good choice and sound judgement right there.

I started TRT mainly because I had no fun in the gym anymore, no real changes and the aches and pains of getting old were taking more and more space in my life. I ask my doc for blood test, came up low range but not enough to qualify so I took matters into my own hands and settled for 200 mgs a week of pharma grade Sustanon.

I do have sides, even at those doses (horrible bacne) but got my estro in control and now everything is good.

I don't know if I want to do this forever. My family is complete and I'm not that worried about long term impact, especially since I train way more but something about sticking a needle in my butt every week seems wrong and odd....

I would add that you can go to a urologist. Any GP doctor in America can write a script for blood test for testosterone. Once on the doctor syringe or gels it's a life time thing. If you get an enlarged prostate as you age he will take you off it and your own body will be shut down probably for good. Many doctors are looking into clomid instead of testosterone. It works to increase LH hormone and it has shown to increase testosterone in many without shutting down the LH/testosterone feed back system.  Unlike HCG which can shut down LH production in your pituitary Clomid doesn't involve itself in the feedback system.  The problem with Clomid for increasing testosterone is that most insurance won't cover it because it was never made for that function. It was just observed in tests that it increased testosterone greatly in many men.

Take everything that I am saying knowing I'm not a doctor and you should consult one.  My urologist said he has run into bodybuilders who have permanently shut down their production of testosterone for running to many cycles of drugs. Now he has young men getting testosterone therapy for life.

The were working on a clomid drug specifically for male HRT. It was one of the stereoisomers that was supposed to provide more of the benefit for males.

Had a friend that tried a "clomid restart". It didn't do fuck-all.

250 a week is too much for TRT.

really low.

Depo-Test Cyp  100mg every 2 weeks

That sounds too low.

yeah it definitely was for me anyway. Everyone started asking me if i was on steroids, i wasn't even big, just ballooned up from what i was because i was always lean and in decent shape so it was pretty obvious. I got tested again a while after i came off and thankfully recovered test back to "in range" levels with HCG.

I really hope i don't need TRT any time soon to be honest. The whole thing was a negative experience due to sides.

HRT doses making you bloat huh?

OK man.... If you say so. Or maybe, just maybe your diet sucks??? The amount of pure fuckiN' horse shit I'm reading lately is just off the charts.
Where do you guys come up with this shit???

I never said anything about bloating specifically, you synthol calfed twat. I have not much clue about the intricacies of steroids, nor do i profess to, or have any wish to. I'm saying what personally happened to me, which was i took 250 a week for a while, starting with around 8% bodyfat on me, and ended up getting covered in bacne and gaining a decent amount of size at the same time.
I was never a bodybuilder so couldn't give much of a fuck about my diet unless i was competing in a bout. Maybe it was all diet, who cares.  i didn't lose much definition though but either way, i have no intention of doing it again.

LOL at Getbig insults.

Synthol filled twat? I wish!!! How about you be a good sport and send me some nice synthol bottles so what you said here could at least be true...

Not sure if you used an AI or not but that could have solved the back acne. I get some when I miss doses.

But the fact you said you don't even know much about your diet is also saying you should not be using gear in the first place...

OTOH, if he got down to 8% on shit food, he could have Hebrew genetics. I have never seen 8% and I eat as clean as I possibly know how without getting in the "Sev 14 lunch boxes" diet.

You'll find that most Doctors who are under the age of 55 and graduated from Harvard will put people on HRT. Some believe Harvard is conducting an unspoken medical experiment on HRT.

Which is odd because all of the undergrad men are complete twinks.

that was never disputed "Ritch". I never made any claims about being big. I said i was around 8% bodyfat and posted the pic to prove it. You're the knob that came tap dancing into this thread with your wooden lifts, and tried to talk a bunch of shit. Now that you've been impaled on a stake of contemptuous ridicule and shown to be wrong, you're doomed to remain here for eternity, making shitty comebacks like "you did a good, captain queer".

Keep responding...
I'm in your weak ass mind, deal with it bitch boy.

A simple typo is your comeback?
Weak, just like your weak pysique.

So yeah... I'm the one who looks bad, ok buddy! Sure, more people wanna look like me than you, so suck it dipshit.

Getbig is like a giant biker-bar fight, with little pockets of violence in different threads. This one is dismaying because I like both ritch and the captain.

Cap, you look to be about 10% in that pic. And I am kind of fat in comparison.

Ritch, I am still homo for your upper pecs :P

Had a friend that tried a "clomid restart". It didn't do fuck-all.

I'm guessing it doesn't work for all. It was never tested in recreational steroid users who are fans of drug muscles. It was tested with males who had low testosterone.  I'm thinking a guy who has done bodybuilding cycles for years might not have functional testicles that would respond to the increased LH hormone that Clomid activates.

how is he right? there is no worldwide study done to confirm all men of older age develop prostate cancer.

If you reread my post, you will see that I allowed for those few who do not develop prostate cancer. Moreover, it was my urologist who told me this. He likely has more knowledge and experience than either you or I.

"By the time a man is 60 years old, it’s almost certain he has at least a low level of prostate cancer. Reassuringly, if men keep their immune systems functioning properly, this cancer stays at such a low level that malignancy never becomes a concern. But all men need to know how to recognize when prostate problems are starting to develop."
http://easyhealthoptions.com/all-men-get-prostate-cancer-what-are-you-going-do-about-it/ (http://easyhealthoptions.com/all-men-get-prostate-cancer-what-are-you-going-do-about-it/)

The article goes on to say that 1 in 5 or 6 get prostate cancer, which is a lot, but not all or most all. It also says that the odds of having prostate cancer at 60 years of age is about 70%.

Just so you know, I almost never speak in terms of absolutes. There are most always some exceptions.

Horrendous back acne (checked estro, was fine) and some sort of allergy to test. Tried pharma and a respected UGL...no difference. I researched it and it's not uncommon. Some trt users suffer the same allergys with prop, oil or cream so fuck knows!
I responded ridiculously to it though. Put over an inch on arms and had the sex drive of a prime ted bundy.

Should add that I never had a spot in my life before either. No acne treatment or antibiotic worked. Only went away when I came off

This is what scares me about using gear even though I'm tempted too. There are some people who just don't respond well to it and I imagine that I'll be one of them. I've got acne, body hair and hairline issues as a natural so gear will fuck me right up I'm sure. I'll probably end up looking jacked but in a bald, spotty yeti kind of way. :D
Title: Re: How do I know if I need HRT?

hmmm, yeah that would worry me a bit too haha, i had none of those issues before and it still didn't agree with me. You never know though, might end up turning you into a jacked Jason Statham type!

I've already got a Jason Statham hairline and I'm only 27. :'(

I want a hair transplant but can't afford to lose any more hair if I go through with it. :D

It's time to jump to the dark side and finish the job on your hair. Remember: jacked as fuck and bald gets the chicks. Also, it's great if you are short.

To whit:

Note how all the women are secretly drooling and having "vaginal waterfalls" while they discretely try to look away in disgust.

This could be you!

I blame a lot of this on getbig (Halo in particular). He made me far more self conscious of my appearance than I previously was. I actually get compliments from the average person on my appearance but now everytime I look in the mirror, I just think "YLLS. HTH."

I'd do the same to be honest. Worked for Wayne Rooney and a ton of other celebs. Being bald seems to suit quite a few people though, I'd definitely get jacked if i start balding haha

Rooney set the trend in the UK and although hair still can't disguise his ugliness, he looks far better than he did before. That's the thing for me. Sure, there are guys who look good with no hair but almost all men look better with hair than without.
